Is this normal after a Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic surgery with D&C

Hello - I had Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic with a D&C on Monday June 25.  The doctor removed some scar tissue and that is all I know until my follow up on the 12 July.  My questions are as follows:

1.  After the surgery I had some spotting the next day and then nothing else until Friday 29 June.  I have been bleeding ever since and as the days go on the bleeding is getting worse and so are the cramps.  In the past 2 days there have been a lot of clots.  Is this normal or should I be worried?

2.  I've also noticed some pain where my right ovary is.  I know that the scar tissue was removed from my left side and NO incision was made on the right, so is this just normal ovulation pain or could it be caused from the doctor just looking around?

3.  Before my surgery I had a UTI and was put on Antibiotics for a 5 day treatment.  My nurse told me that the doctor gave me IV Antibiotics right after my surgery.  I started having pain when I urinated on Saturday 30 June which worsened.  I went back to the doctors on 2 July and the stick test did not show any infection, so they were sending my urine for more tests and put me back on Antibiotics for 7 days.  I have been taking the Antibiotics and have only noticed a slight difference in the pain.  Could something have gone wrong with the catheter that they used during the surgery?

Thanks for all of the help, I really appreciate it.

Dear Barb,

You should see your doctor earlier or at least get the evaluation going. Probably everything is fine but:

1. the bleeding is not normal. You should check a pregnancy test. it maybe good to get a pelvic ultrasound to to see if you need a D&C to clean out blood clots

2 the pain may be from muscle strain

3no but bladder infections are very common.  Try adding some vitamin c (like a gram a day) to keep your urine acid. That will reduce the bacterial count.

take care
