Is this the correct Plan for my ovarian cysts

by jwelcome, Aug 13, 2003 12:00AM
I am a 31 year old woman.   I had experienced pain in my lower abdomen and abnormally severe menstrual cramping about a year ago but nothing was found after a vaginal ultrasound and the symptoms disappeared.  About three weeks ago I had the same pain in my lower abdomen/pelvic region again and went immediately to my gyn.  I have been diagnosed with two complex cysts on my left ovary after having another ultrasound.  One of the cysts is about 6cm in diameter.   The cysts are still present after having my period once.  My doctor has ordered some blood work and has asked that I come for another exam and ultrasound 7-10 days after my next period.  My question concerns the fact that this cyst is complex and if waiting is my best option.  I have been reading a lot of advice on the internet which suggests that these cysts need to be evaluated surgically ASAP because of the fact that they are complex, somewhat large and because I have had pain associated with the cysts.  What would your reccommendation be?
