LMP ovarian tumor

diagnosed with LMP tumor 2 years ago stage ll, had one ovary and fallopian removed and partial ovary on other side and showed a small growth on uterus.  Wanted to preserve fertility but now another large growth on piece of ovary that is left gyn says looks like another tumor yet CA-125 is not elevated this time.  First I thought these things were slow growers, next if the same type of tumor why is the CA-125 not elevated.  Don't know if I should just have total hysterectomy or can I just have more debulking and still preserve my fertility.  Can I have a successful IVF done if the rest of the ovary is removed???  I'm scared and I just need answers, please help!!!!!

In April07 I had a large LMP turmor removed and my ca-125 was not elevated. The ca-125 has not been a good marker for my ovca but for CEA has been a good marker. CEA stands for carcinoembryonic antigen. The most frequent cancer which causes an increased CEA is cancer of the colon and rectum. Others include cancers of the pancreas, stomach, breast, lung, and certain types of thyroid and ovarian cancer. Ask your doctor about the having a CEA blood test done. Don't know if it will be a reliable marker for you but it was for me.  Whether or not you should have your other ovary removed it a question best discussed with you doctor. Julie

For some women the CA125 is not a reliable marker; you might be one of them.  No one can really tell you what you should do.......that is what you and your gyn/oncologist should discuss.  It is possible  your gyn/oncologist might not even know whether your fertility can be preserved until he/she gets in there to take a look at what is going on.  I hope all works out the way you want it to.
Peace.
