Ladies I am back

by ShawnP, Aug 08, 2006 12:00AM
Hello everyone.  I am back from my BSO lap that I had on the 12th of July.  I am happy to say that I am cancer free and in the 99% club.  It turned out to be scar tissue wrapped around my ovaries, some on my kidneys, liver and lower lung.  It had also wrapped around and twisted up my intestines as well.  No wonder I felt so bad.  And beneath it all was the benign complex cyst on my ovary.  Surgery itself went fine, just really long and alot more complicated than anticipated, but I was home in 3 days.  Shortly after my arrival at home, I developed severe pain around my navel and major swelling.  Went straight in to the doc's office and found out I had a seroma (accumulation of fluid) with infection and my incision had to be opened so it could drain.  Put on antibiotics and still have the open wound with packing that has to be changed 2-3 times per day.  It's not painful, it's just gross.  The plan is to stitch me up or put steri-strips on the wound site and get this thing closed up.  I wanted to apologize to MickyVicky--I saw a posting I did to her shortly after my surgery---advice---don't type on narcotics!!  My post looked like I was a drunken fool.  Sorry about that.  I don't even remember doing it! Anyway, I am finally able to leave the couch/bed and move around.  I've been trying to catch up today reading all the posts and it looks like I've missed alot!Glad to be back among the coherent!

Good to see you back Shawn and you sound so well and yes coherent this time!! (It was obvious that you were on strong pain meds). You have had a rough time of it, but it is good to read you are back on the road to full recovery.

It is BRILLIANT news that there was no cancer, a huge worry off your mind I bet.

Well done,
Ursula

Welcome to the RS!!  I am doing the happy dance for you.  Now you just take it easy and get plenty of rest.  You need to be treated like the princess that you are.

Thank you all for the welcome back.  I think now I will be able to answer questions for upcoming laperotomies w/BSO, recovery and infection info as well.

Got good news today....will get that wound closed up in a day or two!  Yippee!
