Hey, they do it for C-sections, both of mine were. And that was reletively a breeze. I think the mind set for many of us would be too much. With a c-sec you are focused on the baby and that makes a difference. It was hard for me to even have carpel tunnel release while "awake" so I don't think I could do the the lap and legs in the stirrup things awake. But the general is a cause for great concern for me also. I have some undiagnosed health issues that I fear may make for difficulties under general. It is nice to know that some of the less pleasant neccesseties are done while you are out.   Cindi

Thanks Willow, My DIL had a D&C after a miscarriage and she said the worst part was the sore throat. I am going to stock up on the cepacol spray and lasanges just in case!   Cindi

Yes, the tube and cathiter will be removed prior awakening. Your throat is a little sore, but that goes away quickly.

I believe when you have general anethesia your lungs collapse a bit, so they tube you to help with breathing, The tubes were put in and taken out while I was under, along with the catheter, I think these are all standard procedures.  Throat and lungs still a bit sore and I don't smoke...

They do all of this while you are under, you won't even know about it!

I am scheduled to have a laprotomy in a couple of months.  Is a breathing tube standard procedure?  Was it out before you woke up?

Hey there!  I had the same surgery, just had 2 dermoids (softball sized!) and basically both ovaryies removed.  Dr. left 10% of my left ovary, but it failed to kick in and I am now in menopause.  No big problem since I am 45, married and have 2 kids.  Aren't dermoids the weirdest thing?  Mine had hair, teeth, bone, cartlidge, skin, and salivary glands!  I did see the pictures of mine when I went in to have my stitches removed.  I am 9 weeks post op and feeling better than I have in a long time.  My only symptoms are menopausal, but we are working on that.  Take care and welcome to the recovery side!  Don't worry about the constipation, the nacrotics do that to you.  You might want to try a stool softner if you have a problem.
