Large Ovarian Cyst at 9 weeks

by BabySig, Jun 08, 2004 12:00AM
Last week I had my first ultrasound (first pregnancy) at 8.5 weeks.  164 beats per minute and everything about the baby looked good, but my Dr. noticed a "pool ball" sized cyst on my right ovary.  However, she offered no explanation as to whether she thought it may be fluid filled, blood filled, or solid.  I do not go back until July 7th for another ultrasound to review the cyst.  Here are my questions:
What should I ask my Dr. in order to learn more about what she may have seen?
Is it normal not to go back to the Dr. for four weeks?  Won't that be too long?
What kind of problems could this potentially cause for the baby?
I took clomid for 1 month - which lead me to conceive - could this have caused the cyst and would it be the kind that would go away on it's own?
Thank you.

Don't get too worried yet.  I was 42, pregnant (oops!) and during the 9-10 week ultrasound a complex cyst was discovered. I had a CA-125 test that came back at 70 -- but it can be elevated due to pregnancy. After weekly ultrasounds, the cyst (5cm as I recall) had not changed, so we decided to have laproscopic surgery at 17 weeks.  The R ovary and tube was removed -- and I had a perfectly healthy baby boy 5 months later. The pathology on the ovary was abnormal cell growth - but not even stage 1 cancer. I have had 2 years of semiannual blood tests and all have been good, until this one -- slightly elevated, so back to the monitoring stage.  But I'm not overly concerned yet....
I also took a couple cycles of clomid about 4 years earlier -- and I wonder if there is some correlation.
