Lauer's Today Show: Grossly Misinformed OVCA facts (the AP too)

  Matt Lauer interveiwed  2  doctors June 13th on Today  Show  who made ridiculous claims that  ovarian cancer was so simple and curable if  detected early and that it's actually quite easy to detect.  What is this?  Some sort of  sipping your tea summer time lets chat about female cancer and how nice the weather is piece? !!!   These morning producers are totally lazy and should book a real GYN /Oncologist on their show to discuss the facts of ovarian cancer.   Please see below and the bottom of the page to  complain.

   Here we are trying to get the word out on how horribly silent this disease is because we need money to fund a real test for accurate detection then these moronic pseudo doctors (Dr. Goff & Dr. Snyderman) go on NBC's Today Show with Matt Lauer saying that that "There's been this myth about ovarian cancer being silent and people saying there's nothing you can do about it. Well, that's simply not true anymore," said Dr. Barbara Goff, a University of Washington cancer specialist.

  There's an MSNBC article and a clip from Brian Williams and she's on the clip.  I haven't been able to locate the Lauer clip which is worse but if you go to the URL you will get the gist of things.

  I'm sure Dr. Snyderman (featured in Lauer's piece too and saying more bullshit) and Dr. Goff are fantastic at reading off teleprompters to gab  about the U.S.'s growing obesity problems but get your facts straight before you misinform an entire nation on cancer.  There are women like Brittany who are suffering right now from this disease that's highly undetectable BECAUSE THERE IS NO TEST for it!  Dammit!

  We need to fund research and how are we supposed to do that when we have doctors (actual doctors) dropping phrases like  "simple blood test" or "pelvic exam" can cure the disease before it starts?

  First off: there is no blood test to detect ovarian cancer.

  Secondly, the rinky dink blood test GYNs/ONC use now called "CA-125" is only 50% accurate.  If your CA-125 is between 1-25 you are considered at a "normal rate".  Guess what? Brittany's CA-125 came back normal every single time until 3 months before she passed away!  This is totally unacceptable!

  Britt Britt's CA-125 was a "10" the entire time her organs were silently being fused together for 2 years from ovarian cancer.  Not even a CAT scan can detect ovarian cancer sometimes b/c it has a tendency to spread "like paint" splattered across your abdomen. If the tumors aren't big enough even a CT PET scan won't pick it up.  I am so furious that Dr. Goff and Dr. Snyderman are touting early detection with a blood test and pelvic exam.  Morons.  We deserve better than that.  We deserve more than a *45% survival rate for more than 5 years after diagnosis.  *American Cancer Society 2007

  We need a test for ovarian cancer and it is as simple as that.
