Liver function?

I was thinking all last night about my appointment and CT. I started to wonder something.... when they did my blood work in the ER three weeks ago they said my liver function was fine. So could that mean that the shadow they are seeing on my liver is really nothing. If there were something on my liver wouldn't the function be off? If anyone knows you knowledge would be really appreciated.

My mum is currently having chemo for her first re occurrence which was in the liver. She had a liver function test and that was fine even though she had a tumour in the left lobe. After half of her chemo the tumour has halved which we are really pleased about.

I think liver function tests tend to be normal even with a tumour present.

Please let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much for your answers. It helps me relax some to know that maybe it isn't metastasis if I do have cancer evern though that is what they are saying they think it is. The ob/gyn said that the gyn/onc will be able to tell me more when I see him tomorrow, but I guess I am worrying about this so much and about having surgery. I do not like hospitals at all.  Well then I guess no one does.  Thank you again.

I don't know about the cancer part, but I had fat deposits on my liver, also called a "fatty liver" which was benign but it did make my LFT's a little off balance.

Hello... it's been 4 years since my dx, but for the first two years, I was told that I had a tumour in my liver, as something showed up on the scans. Well now, since I've been here for 4 years now... and still doing o.k. they have conceded that it's a benign 'spot'. My Oncol. tells me that many people have little 'faults' in/on their livers, and they are not cancerous, so don't get upset before you see your Doctor re your scans... it could very well be nothing to worry about. Wishing you all the best.. and looking for good news after you've seen about your Ct scan.   Hugs...Helen...

Unfortunately, your liver function can be normal and there still be problem.  I had an aunt who died from liver cancer and her liver function tests were normal until the end stages.  However, it is common to have cysts in the liver and fatty areas that aren't a problem.  When I was dx they found a hemangioma in my liver and another cyst and there were two cysts in my kidneys.  Before my surgery, I thought this must indicate cancer had spread there only to find out that most of us do have some sort of cyst congenitally or as we age.  My dr. checked my liver while he was in there and it wasn't cancer.  It is a pain to wait and wonder but I'd bet yours will turn out benign.  Best wishes and try not to worry.      Shelly

I cannot pretend to be any kind of expert on liver function but when I was dx, the cancer in my liver was described from one Dr to another as being "spectacular". I never did ask what spectacular meant but later assumed that it meant there was a lot of cancer there. I was not told if my liver function was fine or not, but I do know that I had no problems at all that I knew of. After initail chemo and surgery, I still had spots in my liver that I later had burned out. My first recurrence was also in my liver. I had those burned out also , but they have come back yet again. The tumors that were burned out show up as nothing but scar tissue. I am not sure how but they can tell the difference between the scar tissue and new tumors. Still to my knowledge I have not had any problems associated with liver function.
What did they tell you about the shadow they saw there? Are they planning to keep a close eye on it , try to treat it or what?
I hope that it is nothing but a shadow and that all is well. But please question your Dr about it and see what he has to say.
Best wishes to you. Love Chris
