I had a TAH/BSO in Feb 2007 . The pathology determined it was Stage 1A, low malignancy potential. My gyn. oncologist said I did not need chemo due to the stage and the type of tumor. I feel VERY lucky to have caught my OVCA so early and not to have needed any chemo. I'll be following up with the gyn oncologist for a long time, but she indicated it was very unlucky I'd have any further problems. I'm happy to hear you caught yours early too!
I am 41 years old, I had my hysterectomy when I was 39.
Yes thanks I am on the road to recovery now.
Now it is fingers crossed :)
I was diagnosised with Stage 1A in 2000. It was confined to one ovary and I did not require chemo. I was 37 at the time.
The surgery was done by an OB/GYN and frozen sections during surgery came back clean. Final pathology showed OvCa - Stage 1A. At the time of surgery they only removed the right ovary/tube. Within 4 years the GYN/ONC removed my left ovary/tube and uterus as I began to develop masses....this time all were benign. I have since develop another mass, small at the moment, which they believe is of ovarian tissue left from ovarian remants due to massive amount of scar tissue after the first surgery.
Chemo seems to be protocol for Stage 1C and above.
Good luck to you.
How old are you? Hopefully, you are on the road to recovery! Best of Luck! My prayers are with you!
I completed six rounds of carboplatin/Taxol in April for a stage 1 grade 1 ovarian tumour, there was two reasons why I needed chemo:-
1) It was my second bout of cancer after being diagnosed with endometrial cancer the year before and having a hysterectomy (I was left with one ovary after that).
2) The ovary that was left in was stuck to my bowel, they were not sure whether it was because of the adhesions that I had or because there was some cancer cells on the surface of the ovary and therefore they couldn't run the risk.
I also completed six weeks of radio therapy treatment as well
