Maitake D-Fraction

To alanpvegas
I'm just a little curious, as I've read where you have mentioned
Maitake D-Fraction (Griffin Pro version) on quite a few posts, and just wondering why you seem to be promoting this so much? Do you know something that I don't? Is this something that is working wonders for your Mum? Also you seem to be a believer in soy? I'm just wondering if I'm missing out on something with these products?
Thanks for any input.....Best wishes...Helmar...

Yes, sorta.  Even with the chemo drugs out there they are trying to use to prevent recurrance of ovca, they are not perfect.  The old saying everyone is different really holds water.

Maitake D-Fraction has been studied extensively....but not in America.  There are plenty of studies elsewhere.  Beta Glucans have even more studies.  Since Maitake D-Fraction is the best 'oral' beta glucan you can take, you will find lots of research to back it up.

Will it stop recurrance?  Well I'm no doctor or scientist but we do have to admit that out immune system is a key component.  The beta glucans activate many cells that attack cancer...period.  They have shown it in vivo (in human trials) and it worked...we're talking about 90% and above.  It does not work well, however, in bone or stomach cancer.

For fermented soy...yes.  Refer to that URL I included...there is a full text link you can click from the governments website.

The key is keeping your body hostile to cancer and it's recurrance or current occupancy.

I think one major thing for ANY women who has been diag is to have heated IP chemotherapy DURING the surgery.  They have found out this greatly kills left over cells.  Then as we know IP chemo (although harsher) is better directed than IV chemo.

THere is lots going on now...natural remedies are not 'cures' per say, but they possibly can be depending on a persons body.  Either way they have been proved in vivo to help enhance chemotherapy, reduce chemotherapy side effects and help attack cancer.

Best wishes!

Thanks everyone for your responses, but do we really have any proof that these things actually stop cancer from recurring once we have had it? That's what I wonder about. Like doing things in a 'petri dish' in a lab is quite often different to actually trying them on a living person. These things are good, yes....and probably help us to combat the chemo and stay healthier, but do they in actual fact stop the cancer? Proof is what I am looking for. I have met two women here who are ovca patients... one has been going for 5 years, and one for 16 years. The lady who has dodged it for 16 years, doesn't take any supplements, vitamins or does anything other than eat healthy...which I do anyhow. The other lady was taking 'extras', and she has recurred. Going on this, I just think that once we have this cancer, it will recur if it wants to, no matter what we ingest, but I suppose the heathly stuff does help us combat it and the chemo.
Anyhow, thanks for your input. It's always much appreciated.... *hugs*...Helmar..

These are all the goodies that the FDA does not want us to know about.  These great researchers have a tough time with even their ads because they get hopped on quickly if even one statement says anything about a "cure". I have read where good doctors have been jailed for trying to address the issues of prevention and cures. The drug companies do not want us using anything they don't get the patent for. Your doctors can get into deep trouble for even telling you what  "might" work. We mention things to my daughters doctors and ask if it will interfer with any of her treatments, when they say no, then she tries it and if it helps good, if not we go back to some of the other things. I truly feel the ginger is a good thing.  It is too bad that profit has to sideline some of the indicated help factors we read about. Doctor Lister was jailed because he told doctors to wash their hands before deliverys and surgery.  They dismissed his proven theory about spreading germs. He died penniless. This still goes on today, but the medical field keeps it quiet. I am so upset with medicine now days that I want to scream.  When we read about a natural grown product that has been used, we also read the disclaimer at the bottom. It makes people afraid to try natural remedies.  There are many caring ,honest providers of natural aides and this family uses them. Instead of ritalin for my grandson, we went to a natural mixture and he is doing great in school now, my kids are asmatics, instead of inhalers and drugs we use BioVent and all have improved.

Hi Helmar,

Haven't really had time for mom to try it...she has been having a very rough 6 months and is just now doing better (although chemo is Wednesday again).  For a long time she was NPO and such.  She was taking the Maitake D-Fraction for a few days, but nausea in general was too much for her.

Anyways, as you can imagine, I have been doing lots and lots of research.  Typical stuff like seeing if there is anything that I can find to help mom.  Besides traditional chemo (which I'm not saying anyone should give up), I've found complimentary methods I think show promise.  I have no vested interest (like stocks or anything) in any of them...I'm just trying to put my 2 cents on the ones I think are good and the companies I think are 'reputable' out there.

MAITAKE D-FRACTION
--------------------------------------
Maitake D-Fraction shows lots of potential.  Is it a cure, no, but it has been shown to boost the immune system and have antitumor response in vivo and in vitro.  Basically (I'm no scientist here) it is a complex polysaccharide with branched beta-glucans 1,3 and 1,6.  Now that is a mouthful but basically what that means is beta glucans are showing major promise in cancer therapy.  Beta glucans are used as or in addition to standard treatment in Japan and other countries with success.

You can get beta glucans from other mushrooms (that you will hear promoted), but only Maitake D-Fraction is effective taken orally.  They theorize this is because of how dense maitake beta glucans are compared to others.

My mom's oncologist, when presented with it, said it couldn't do any harm and might do some good.  Although we couldn't do an effective 'personal trial' on this as of yet.  Studies out there (check out pubmed) show it works.  Beta Glucans, especially 1,3 show much promise in cancer therapy including ovarian cancer.

It's also good, reportedly, to reduce the effects of chemotherapy.  All this is done by boosting the immune system...so that being said it's entirely possible you can have a CR or complete response using maitake d-fraction but I like the fact it can be used in conjunction with chemotherapy (where it boosts the effectiveness of it).

A good book on all of this is called "Maitake Magic".  I got mine for a few bucks on amazon by buying used.  It's a lot easier read then searching all the websites, trade magazines and pubmed...although you may want to do that.

So, basically, I think anything that boosts the bodies natural methods to fight cancer is a good thing.  Maitake D-Fraction (esp. the Griffin Pro version by Maitake Products inc. www.maitake.com) is the way to go *effectively*.  You can also check amazon.com for this and get a little cheaper prices than going directly to their website.

Their D-Fraction has IND (Investigational New Drug) status with the FDA for Breast and Prostate cancer...so (bear with me scientifically) they are 'similar' (hate saying that) to ovca in some ways.  Response rates to those cancers in some trials (although not run like American trials) showed very good responses.

SOY
--------------------------------------
Very controversial with Breast, Prostate and Ovarian Cancer.  The big key is not 'regular' soy but 'fermented' soy.  This is where Americans always get it wrong...Asian countries consume a lot of 'FERMENTED' soy and that's where they get their 'anti-cancer' benefits.

All soy contains the two isoflavones we're after for cancer treatment or prevention:  Genistein and (I'm spelling this wrong) Denistein.  Genistein is the one everyone is looking at because it basically weakens the cancer cells.

There is a Phase III trial now for Phenoxodil (hope I spelled that right) that is simply an analog of Genistein.  That's it!  And it's showing big promise.  In-fact the FDA has given it fast track status because it is primarily for PLATINUM RESISTANT women with ovca.  Basically what it does is chemosensitize the cells again so carobplatnim can be used again.

They are doing it as monotherapy right now to get it pushed through, and it can be used that way, but combination is showing more potential.

You can do the same (although less 'powerful' than their analog) with supplements or fermented soy drinks.

In-fact one women used a fermented soy drink called Haelen 951 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=16171852&dopt=Abstract) to stabalize her disease and had an excellect CR (clinical response) 9 months later.  This is with her being platinum resistant and no success with other treatments.

How much do you take?  Well Haelen 951 is NASTY and it's hard for Americans to drink these bitter fermented soy drinks (plus it's expensive).  You can do supplements...I think LEF (Life Extension Foundation at www.lef.com) sells a big dose one.  Nature's Way has one as well labeled EstroSoy which I also have waiting here for mom.

Do supplements work better?  I don't know...the key is Genistein...but this is old world knowledge finally meeting up with modern day medicine.

Right now my focus is, obviouslly, on mom since she's been 6 months straight in the hospital with just a few days out.  But I plan on creating an entire website that is devoted to talking about all the treatments and alternative therapies out there (with plenty of room to discuss them and have all the data right there at your fingertips).  So I'll post that website URL when I get it unless anyone would like me to start a mailing list!

Good luck to you all...keep positive thinking as well, that is important!  I think there are some really interesting chemo options coming and I'm constantly looking for them (actually found a new one today out of Italy and I'm researching to see where it's at now).

Hi,

Some good articles.

Here's some documented stuff on the SOY that Alanpvegas talks about. Thank you Alanpvegas.

Also the RESVERATROL that I believe in--documented stuff.

These are in clinical trials also. University of Michigan, again!

They were the ones that found out that ginger kills ovarian cancer cells.
(petri dish-is it progressing in trials with people--anyone know??)

Make sure you read the one with the Department of Defense.
