Mass discovered on a CT Scan

Mass discovered on a CT Scan

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping to reach out and find others who have been in my shoes.  I had been having lower abdominal pain and went to the doctors who initially thought it was a bladder infection, and after two bouts of antibiotics and the symptoms remained my doctor sent me for a catscan.  The CT showed a MASS by my left ovary / Uterus, and that my lypmhnodes were inflamed but the doctor said they needed an ultrasound to better identify the mass, as well as a transvaginal Ultrasound.  She also ordered a chest X Ray as well as the Blood tests including CA - 125.  She set me up with a gynocologist for tomorrow afternoon, and says I will need surgery.

I am SCARED to DEATH this may be cancer.  I have NO family history of cancer but with all the tests she has be scared, and she is closed until tomorrow.   Has anyone been through this and what was the outcome.

I had no weight loss until I found this out and since than I have lost 7 lbs (due to stress & anxiety I am sure).

It is naturally to be scared, but your doctor is doing all the right things.  Make sure you get copies of ALL your test results (scans, ultrasounds, etc).  It is great that you are seeing an oncologist/gyn.  Cancer can not be diagnosed until there is surgery and a biopsy.

Please let us know how your appointment goes and what questions you may have, as I am sure you will have some.

Good Luck.

Jane

*remember you are on a sight where many women here have been through this and have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, that is not saying what you have.  I went to the doctor, have a CT scan, found out I had a mass, saw a gyn/oncologist, and was having surgery 5 days later.  Everyone has different stories and can provide you different types of support.  It's natural to be scared.

Hey Jane,

The Ultrasound did not show anything suspicious and does not correlate to the mass found in the CT.  My CA 125 test is 19.  No one is sure what's going on and now sending me for more tests.  Do you think it's strange that the Ultrasound does not correlate to eth CT?   They also did a CAE test and that was 14, but all other tests were good, blood good, Chest X ray good.  I think I am more confused than ever now.....

Hi there, sorry I didn't put this on a watch list for some reason.  Make sure you get copies of all your reports, blood work, etc!!  You can get them from your doctor or the facilty directly.  Is the mass gone?  Are you still in pain?  You did see the gyn/oncologist correct?  I know it's frustrating not to have an answer, but it's good that things appear to be normal.  Did they ever originally say how big the mass was?

Hey Jane,

Sorry for the late response, as I have been crazy.   They found malignant cells in an Endometrium Biopsy after a pap showed absnormal cells.  My GYN thinks I have fallopian tube cancer cause the mass isn't being seen in the ultrasound.  I am scheduled for a hysterectomy and staging with a GYN/ONC on Feb 2nd.  He thinks I may have to go through a round of Chemo to be safe.  They feel because of my subsequent tests are all ood that we may have caught this early.  Will know more on Thur.  I do have copies of all my tests and was going to get a second opinion but I do feel confident in my GYN skills ESPECIALLY since he questioned the first biospy that showed benign but after the pap results he made them run it again, and there they were fragments that are confirmed for malignany.

Please ask for a gynecological oncologist to do the surgery -- or at least be available during the surgery.  Gyn/oncs have three years additional training, and usually have lots more experience, in surgeries involving women's gyn issues.  You want to get it right the first time, and using a gyn/onc is the way to do that.

I missed a gyn/onc appointment earlier this month when he was called to help a woman who was bleeding after a C-section.  His surgical tech told me that he is one of the few doctors in the area that the hospitals call when they have this problem.  She said the repair is simple for him, only takes a couple of minutes, but that many doctors have trouble with it.

Good luck and God bless ...

Hi shewrites, I confirmed yesterday that the GYN/ONC will be there with my GYN.    He has 34 years experience so I am confidant in his history.  They will be working as a team with the back & forth with pathology as they are doing the hysterectomy.

Thanks for your support and input it is GREATLY appreciated!
