Mass in lower uterine segment ??

I am wondering if anyone can tell me if what I am going through is similar to them or what they have been through?
I had not been feeling well, low energy, some pelvic pain, lower back pain and an awful feeling of having to urinate very often also crampie feeling. After many different attempts to figure out what my problem was an intravaginal ultrasound was done. Doctor called me to tell me they found a mass and she would need to refer me to gyn dr. I tried to ask her as many questions as I could think of... I asked her if this could be what was causing my bladder problems and she said yes it was in this area. But that is about all I could get that was useful. She never once said do not worry... just said don't let yourself get too upset....
I do not go to see the GYN Dr till Tuesday and am worried... I asked the nurse when she called me to make the apt what would the appointment be that day.. she just said the Dr will discuss your options.
Can this be ovarian cancer if the mass they saw was near the bladder?Could there be more than this if it was not seen on the ultra sound? What does a mass actualy mean?  Does anyone have any insight into this and any advise for me as I see the Dr on Tues.. any questions I should ask and so on... I am just at a loss as to what to think or how to handle and some information  or insight before Tuesday would be comforting. Thanks so much to anyone who responds. Cheryl

So sorry you are having to join us but this is the place to be. The gals here can help with almost anything. Maybe you could get more info if you could get your hands on the actual US report. Then the girls coudlhelp decode it as much as possible. It doesn't sound like you docs were very forthcoming. Some are just like that. But you've come to the right place for some help.  Cindi

Thanks so much for these two fast responses.. you can tell I am nervous as in how fast I checked back to see if there were any posts.
I wish I could have gotten more up front info from the doctor. But it is in the military system ( if anyone out there has delt with that they will know what I mean) everything is done their way when they want. You hardly ever see the same doctor and never really sure how the system will handle your situation. I have been sick since the 1st week of Jan and now have just finally come to some conclusion. I guess they deal with so many people they become detached and the fact that you are in pain another day does not effect them.

I am sure I will find out much more on Tuesday but it is dificult not to be a bundle of nerves till then.

I am not sure even as to what exactly a mass is.. can it be a fibroid.... do masses that are not harmful (cancer) cause such problems as I have and symptoms? Have people found masses on the ultra sound and it turns out not to be bad at all? Your mind just races....

Let me tell you this: 99% of all ovarian cysts are benign!!  I know it is hard not to worry, we have all been there.  Try to take your mind off of it.  Tuesday is not that far away. (Yeah, I know easier said than done)  I will wait with you.

Hi Chery and welcome,

Your story and symptoms sound almost identical to mine. I have a 5.5 cm complex cyst on my left ovary. I will be seeing a gyn/onc tomorrow to schedule surgery. My cyst and yours may or may not be ovca. The symptoms are the same either way. But as the others here have already told you, 99% are benign. As far as the word mass, I have found that the words mass, cyst, and tumor seem to be interchangeable. So don't let the words freak you out!! The waiting is hard. I'm in my 5th week of it. But stick around here, ask all the questions you want, whine complain cry if you need to. We are all here for you and you have all of our prayers. We are and have been where you are and truly understand what you are going through. You are welcome to make this journey with us instead of alone.

Thanks so much.. i know you understand the military first hand. My husband is retired Army I have been married to him since before he came in so I have had too much experience with the military medical system. I have had these symptoms and have been bothered with htis since before the 1st week in Jan when the pain became so bad I went to the ER ( not a good idea) I personally had not had a bad experience but my husband became very sick and went undiagnoised with a bad gallbladder that began to die before they figured it out... He was operated on and came home for 2 wks then went back into hosp for 2 weeks due to complications from the surg... So I think that is also playing into my fears along with having to moan and complain to get them to do anything to figure out what was wrong. I have never been a moaner so that was hard for me. I understand the PA not being able to tell me much, she prob does not know much more. I am a little calmer now than I was at first and know I will make it till Tues alright. I know exactly what you mean about how the Gov is about your records and test results. Before they did the ultra sound they went into the bladder to look and all was ok inside.. I asked to check my records out and the lady acted like I was asking for gold from her personally. She wanted to know what I wanted to look at.. I got a little defensive and said they are my records and I just want to look at anything that is in them.... she did inform me they were not mine at all but belonged to the Gov and made me give her my ID card to hold while I looked at them within her view. How silly is that? Well anyway I can say that this sight has bben helpful for me and calming. It is so nice to know there are people who are so thoughtful and sweet to thoses they do not even know. I do not know if all out there are religious or not but I am including all in my prayers. To Rebel Spirit you will be in my thoughts and I am sending well wishes, prayers and good vibes your way as you go through this now too.  Already you have made my waiting much easier, calmed me down and gave me a better out look. I am just going to think positive that this is nothing and if it is something I am going to make it nothing. Nice to met you guys!! P.S. Plz excuse my typos I am not the best typist!

Was reading back and realized I blabbed on but didn't answer questions. Thats me always talking too much when I am nervous haha  I do not have any children have never been able to get preg except for one etopic preg back in mid 80's burst and lost that tube and had emg surg. No irregular bleeding but bad period pain ( but has been that way for years) have always had a normal yearly pap.

I am so sorry you have had to go through this for such a long time. I can't imagine. You are in my thoughts and I also addressed some things to you in my previous post to Raven Lady. I feel so comforted that you guys are here for me and I hope I can also be a support for you too!

Chery- I am sorry you are going through this. But I am so glad you found this site.  You will get comfort support and wisdom here.  My son is military and we are learning what that is like so I can somewhat relate to that.  I also had uterine fibroids and had very much the same kind of symptoms you are describing.  Try to relax over the weekend.  Many of us struggle with the anxiety of "wait and see" but you always know you can come here for a place to lean.   Will be anxious to hear what the doc says on Tuesday.

I'm chiming in kind of late in this thread, but I just saw your post and thought I'd try to lend a hand.  I'm also ret military (small world!) and still using military hospitals/docs.  I had my first u/s in January (complex ovarian cysts and others in my uterus) and got the same info from my gp as you...nothing! :) I was referred to a gyn specialist and have had to be 'resourceful' to get my own info.  I did exactly as MSgt Mary said...I walked up to the noncom at the check-in desk, handed him my id card and asked for a copy of my test printout...and it worked!  After my initial biopsy I did the same thing...and it worked again.  Although the medical records are the property of the government, there are signs all over the hospital about patient rights...one of which is a right to have access to your medical records.  If you have any problems there should be a patient advocacy office right there in the hospital, go talk to them.  I'll bet they help you out!!  The very best to you!

I am so glad that you have found some solice here!  Aren't these women fantastic?  Being an Army Brat, I remember when I had to have my appendix out - what a fiasco!  At first I was dx with the stomach flu!  Anyway - you will be on the other side of this before long and we will be right here for you.  Listen to Ravenlady, she is one smart cookie and also someone that I am proud to call my friend.  I know she can point you in the right direction.  Godspeed
