Mom has colostomy, ureter stent, mets to liver

Hi My mom has been fighting ovarian CA IIIc for 5 years now. The past year she has developed multiple problems. She had a bowel blockage and had to have a colostomy, she had a mass of cancer crushing her ureter tube so she had a stent put in and it caused incontinence, and she has vaginal bleeding from a spread to the vaginal cuff. I just got her back out of the hospital last week for a small bowel obstruction that DID resolve. Does anyone else have or know of someone with this many issues and how do you help them??? I am 48yrs old married w/no children and my dad passed away last year so I moved in with my mom to take care of her. I have a medical background and do the best I can to manage all of her body failures but I don't feel like I really help her. The biggest challange is food. She was just diagnosed with mets to the liver and that combined with the nausea and possible sm bowel blockage again makes it impossible to feed her. I blend energy shakes and recently was advised to stay with a mostly liquid diet but I would like suggestions for nutritious meals too. Also has anyone received a chemo combo of drugs that resolved mets to the liver and what were the chemo's used? Thank you for any info.

Hello....dian here...yesterday I went to Google's news page and I saw an article on liver cancer...there is a new drug.."Nexavar" ...I went to Google...then to News and typed in "liver cancer chemo" and it brought up the article....if I had your e-mail I would try to send it to you....I feel badly for your mom, and you and your entire family....my heart goes out to you all...

Hello... I agree with Sue... a blender is the way to go. I took care of my disabled son for 27 years, and he couldn't chew, so when I cooked food for the rest of the family, he would have the same, but I blended his. I would put steak, fish, or chicken in the blender and add veggies with a little dob of butter, and it tasted really nice, and he was getting the same nourishment as the rest of us. You can also add some gravy to give it a nice taste. Mashed bananas with grated apple and icecream is good too. Also custard. There are heaps of ideas out there.

Hi, I'm sorry for your mom, but I think she will getting better, just try to give her the right food. Soup is pretty good, and my best, I tried for my dad, who had liver and lung cancer is a JUICER. Costco has for $ 90.00, and you can not go wrong.
Fruits, and vegetables can blend together couple of seconds. Pain, when you need to clean, but the best!

Yes, someone did have it go to the liver and chemo took care of it. It's on this website somewhere but you'll have to go through the archives. I don't remember who it was.

Those recipes everyone gave you sound good. Add soaked raw sunflower seeds to Helmar's apple banana shake also. Sunflower seeds are amazingly nutritious. You soak 1/2 cup overnight so it's easier to assimilate the vitamins in them.

Those whey protein shakes are good. I'd stay away from the soy ones. If you do juice---beet juice in small amounts (of course mixed with carrot or apple) and adding parsley or spinach is very good.
