Mom "regrew" an ovary and now might be cancerous

Has anyone ever had this happen? My mom was admitted in the hospital this week with a severely swollen stomach, severe pain, vomitting, a sticky vaginal discharge and some blood in her stool. She had a CT scan and some blood tests. A surgeon came in and said there was a possibility that her ovary grew back even though she had a complete hysterectomy 30 years ago and now she could have ovarian cancer. If you have had this problem could you please give me your symtoms (symptoms) and help me understand all this. I am afraid I am going to loose my mother.

I think the only organ that can regenerate is the liver. I have heard of ovarian remnant syndrome which can cause multiple problems however. Perhaps that's what's going on. Still, she may not have cancer. When is her next appointment? Any idea what they plan to do next? Please stay in touch. Many women here have so much experience that they can cover just about any situation or questions you have.

I am one of those women that Ireneo was talking about.  I have Ovarian Remnant Syndrome and it stinks.  When I had my left ovary removed, it was attached to the colon, bowels, and bladder.  Whe the docor removed it, he left cells behind and from the left behind cells, my ovary regenerates itself.  I have had the remnant removed 2 times and each time they are "positive" that they got it all, but now I have another ovarian cyst and ovary.  A lot of doctors have not heard of this (or if they have, they usually dont admit it), but thankfully I have an awesome doctor who listens to me.  He did a hormone, FSH,  test a few weeks ago and it was low (11) which he said is great for someone who has working overies.  I feel bad for your mom as I know how frusterating this is.  Why does her doctor think it may be cancerous?  If you want to chat sometime, just send me a private message and maybe I can be of some help to you and your mom.  I hope she has an appointment soon.  Please let us know what you find out.

I am an early stage OvCa survivor...and also have what they believe is cyst caused by Ovarian Remnant Syndrome.  They believe that this mass has developed due to remnants ovarian tissue left behind in the initial surgery due to lots of existing scar tissue.

Also, please know, that someone can have "Ovarian Cancer" or Primary Pertioneal Cancer without having ovaries.  The cells are the same type of cancer.
