Mother w/ ov ca and br ca x 2 -

My mother was dx with ovarian cancer very recently.   In the past, she's also had breast cancer twice (separate cancers), and the first was pre-menopausal.   Would this be reason to suspect she (and perhaps my sisters and I) carry one of the BRCA genes?

It is possible that your mother has a BRCA 1 or 2 mutation. Ten percent of breast/ovarian cancer cases are associated with this gene mutation. It would be important for your mother to get tested. If she has the gene mutation, then you and your sisters can get tested
