Mouth Sores on Cytoxan

Hi all... I have been coming here to learn about OVCA because I have a friend who was diagnosed with Clear Cell. Normally I just try to read to learn, but today I have a question for her. She has been of course getting terrible nausea and a little bit of fever. She tries to drink lots and lots of fluids to help. But what actually seems to be bothering her the most is the mouth sores she has been getting. Has anyone else gotten mouth sores? What can you do to help them? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of nausea drugs is she on? If she is not getting relief from nausea maybe her doc could chande her meds. I was told if my drugs didn't help to just let them know and they'd try another. The one that helped the best was Emend. I also had zofran and ativan. The mouth sores I never had from my chemo, but they gave me a sample of a  mouth rinse for chemo patients that was to help prevent mouth sores and provide reief. She could ask at the pharmacy. I forget the name of it. I admire you for helping your friend this way. You are so kind. Marie

Leslee uses a mouth wash of sea salt and boiled water, has had no problem, she also sucks on ice chips during her infusions  Marty

My dentist prescribed Dexamethasone.  I believe it is actually a cough medicine, but to help the mouth inflammation, he told me to swish it around in my mouth, then spit it out.  I also use a mouth rinse called Prevention Oncology Mouth Rinse.  You can get that at any drugstore.  She may also want to try Biotene.  I use Biotene toothpaste, but they also have a mouth rinse that might help.  It is very mild, and does not contain any alcohol that could make the sores worse.

I had many large and very sore mouth ulcers while on Doxil. Sea-salt crystals mixed in warm water as a wash was really good. Rinsing the mouth after each meal, and especially before going to bed at night was of great help to me.Sucking ice during the infusions is really good, but I wasn't told this until after my third round of Doxil, so it was too late then. I'll know next time though. I've not had any mouth sores with the other chemos.
