triamcinolone oral paste.....this is by far the best for any oral sores. It actually adheres to oral musosa.prescription only.
I've had trouble with canker sores most of my life. They are nasty, painful things! One thing that has helped me some is something called "Miracle Mouthwash" that a doctor prescribed me. It's something they have to mix up at the pharmacy (make sure they do a good job and it's not clumpy). I dab some on with a Q-Tip several times a day when I have one.
My dentist also prescribed me fluocinonide gel, which is generic for lidex gel (IIRC), to dab on them. He gets them, too, and that's what he uses for them. I think it helps shorten the duration.
There was a lady who posted here, she worked for a dr. and told us of a great mouthwash that helped relieve the mouth sores from chemo. I know it began with a "b" SO if anyone can jog my memory - lol - it would be greatly appreciated. I know it works because many responded favorably. You and your mom are in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed

I copied this from a cancer web site:
Eating a high protein diet will provide nutrients which may prevent and help repair mouth sores.
Drink high protein liquid drinks such as: Carnation Instant Breakfast, Health Shake (Gainer
My mom had big trouble with mouth sores. She said her dentist recommended L-lysine. You can find it near the vitamins. He said to take 2 per day, but a friend of hers who had lots of chemo for breast cancer took 4 per day. She said it really helped. Also the Biotene mouthwash was helpful too.
I think it's pretty common for each chemo's side effects to get worse, but if she's on the 5th she's probably almost done!
Hi! I am a dental hygienist and also a friend of someone who went through chemo. The mouthrinse is called BIOTENE and can be purchased anywhere that sells toothpaste. It is not a RX. They also sell gum, which increases saliva production and soothes and also a toothpaste. I am not sure how much relief this will give since she already has the sores but if used before chemo starts, it should help a lot. Keep me posted
Thank you ladies all so much. Im waiting on a phone call from the nurse at the chemo office but in the meantime I will go purchase the Biotene mouth wash and see how it helps.
Thank You so much and the best to all of you.
This thread is a perfect example of women at work helping eachother...it shows how valuable friendship between women is...it also clearly identifies the significance of this site and the compassion and wisdom of the women who live here. Thank-you ladies...thank-you.
Peace.

Her sore is on the top gum area and a few little red dots on the side of her tongue. The top of the gum thats where it hurts her, she's almost in tears. I feel so bad. I think I will call her doc in the morning to see if she can get something perscribed.
Thank you for your adivse
After my surgery 2 weeks ago, I had blisters on my tongue and roof of my mouth (was given triple antibotics through my IV and had a reaction :(. My doctor prescribed me a mouth rince called Mary's Mirical Mouthwash. It was awesome!! It took some of the sores away after the first use. It was great. Maybe this would help your mom. Hope this helpes. Kasie
I don't know about that particular type of mouth sore, but for general mouth ulcers I found that using Rembrandt Toothpaste For Canker Sores (make sure it's the one for canker sores) to prevent them and if I do start to get one, I use Amosan Oral Wound Cleanser and that will eliminate it. It comes in a small box and you can find at drugstores.
