Nearly two years ago, I had my left ovary removed surgically due to a large mucinous cystadenoma diagnosed as borderline malignant. This tumor appeared and grew very large between the time I had my second child and 10 months following.
At my recent doctor's visit, I had a routine sonogram "just as a precaution". The sonogram revealed a small cyst on my right ovary. I was told that it was a nonfunctional cyst (I have been on birth control pills for years in between pregnancies) but small so nothing to be concerned about and that I could have another sonogram in 6 months or could wait until my next annual appointment to be checked again. I am scheduled to have a CA-125 annually and based on my age (35) perhaps shouldn't be concerned. But I can't help wondering if it is really appropriate to wait so long for a follow up based on my history. How likely is a recurrence of the cystadenoma or a malignancy?
