My Wife needs help!!

Hello All. My wife is 39. She has been sick ever since this past January. Her symptoms were (and still are) she has a lot of bloating. She looks like she is 9 months pregnant with twins. (She has had her Tubes tied, Burt, clipped 14 yrs ago.) She went to obgyn in march and Dr. found a bunch of tumors on her Uterus. So Dr removed it. On June 1st another Dr. at the same office found a cyst on her right Ovary. So he went in and removed the Cyst. During that time he said the left ovary looked fine. On June 6 my with was rushed back to the Hospital for emergency surgery. Her right ovary had ruptured. After the surgery Dr. walked out and said that the Surgery went ok and that he removed the right ovary, but he could Not Find The Left Ovary!!!! Which 5 days before he said the left ovary looked fine. Any way she seemed to get better the following months only with occasional pain in her lower abdomen. The doctor reassured her that the pain was coming from the scar tissue. Never said anything about the swelling in her abdomen. Now this past week her Abdomen is swollen huge. She has been really fatigued. Goes to the bathroom a lot. Today she is complaining of severe lower abdominal and back pain. We don't know what to do. Doctors keep saying she doesn't have any type of cancer. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks
Bruce

Ok when she first got sick back in Jan. she went to ER. They told her it was water retention. Not satisfied with that answer she went to another ER and they told her it was gas. Gave her some meds. They didn't help. So once Monday came around she went to her regular family doctor, he thought it could be IBS. Gave her meds for that. He sent her to a specialist, She had the endoscopy done and the light down her throat. Specialist said she had a couple of ulcers. Gave her meds for that. Didn't help. She started hurting under her right rib which is where the gallbladder is located. The doctors ran all the test you can have done for gallbladder. Gallbladder is fine. Took her to DUKE Hospital they said nothing was wrong with her and sent her out the door crying  in extreme PAIN! with a prescription for 12 percocets (Which she can not take, makes her sick) . Somebody told her at church to go to see the OBGYN.

That's when Dr.Cummings (OBGYN) found the fibroids on the Uterus. So he removed the Uterus Vaginally. Hour after surgery she is rushed back into operating room because she is bleeding profusely from her vagina. Doctor said one of the stitches had came loose. Sent her home two days later. A week later she is back in hospital because of infection around the (scar tissue?). Still bleeding from her Vagina. It eventually stopped after a couple of days. All that was in March. She seemed to be doing good for a few months only with occasional pain and mild swelling of the abdomen( Doctor said it was scar tissue?) She started seeing a different OBGYN doctor ( Dr, Baker)that was in the same office as Dr. Cummings( he seemed to be more concered with Michelle's well being)  Then in May it all started back with the swelling, nausea, backpain, Hurting up under her right rib. Also pain where the ovaries are.  Dr. Baker wanted to do an Exploratory surgery. On June 1, Dr. Baker went in through a small insicion in her abdomen. He said he found a cyst on her right ovary. He removed the cyst but did not remove either ovaries. Said that the left ovary looked fine and the right ovary should do ok. So no ovaries were taken out on Jun1. She went home next day. On Jun 5.  she was rushed to the hospital, the pain was unbearable. She was having extreme pain in her lower abdomen and lower back. The ER staff gave her some strong pain medicine which eased the pain for a few hours. She then had a CT Scan done. They said they found nothing wrong and that it was just the Damn Scar tissue. And  started to send her home, That when I went off the deep end and basically told the ER doctor he was not sending her home to call Dr. Baker. Which reluctantly he did. Dr. Baker gave the ok for the ER to admit Michelle. She was admitted at 2am June 6. At 7:00 am Dr. Baker operated on Michelle. He also had another Surgeon with him to help check for any tears or cuts in the intestine. Dr. Baker told us that the right ovary that had had the cyst had Ruptured. So he removed the right ovary. He also said that he could not find the left ovary.(which 2 weeks prior he said the left ovary looked Fine!) Ok so my thought is where the heck is it. Ovaries Just don't disappear do they? She stays in the hospital for 8 days. The doctor wanted to make sure her intestine "Calm" down after all the trauma. She was then sent home. Mind you she still had abdominal swelling (not to much but still noticeable) along with upper and lower abdominal pain and back pain. This past month her Stomach has swollen the worst i have seen this year. Looks like instead of 9 months pregnant with twins. She looks more like 9 months pregnant with quadruplets. She went back to see Dr. Baker last week and he gave her a prescription of ultracets  and told her if she wasn't any better in 4 weeks he would go back in and remove the left ovary. Ok I thought he couldn't find the left ovary the last surgery. As of right now she shows all the signs of ovarian cancer, We don't know what to do. Or who to go see!

For the life of me i can't remember exact dates of the test that you asked about but i Know she has had several CT scans and several Ultrasounds. I do remember asking about CA-125 and they said it was OK. CEA I'm not sure about. I know she hasn't had a MRI and she hasn't had a transvaginal sonograms that i'm aware of. Like you said I need to get all the papers from the hospital and her Doctors at Women's Lifestyle Center.
Please pray for my Wife!!

Bruce,
That time line is hard to follow, it seems like one hand did not know what the other was doing. Did your wife have the surgery by her regular gyn or was it a gyn/oncologist? Before I get into all that has been done did your wife have any of the following; Cat Scan, MRI, transvaginal sonograms and blood work as in CA125,CEA. If so what was the results. If you do not have in your possesion copies of all tests get to the Dr's office have your wife fill out authorizations for release of records and get them as you are entitled to all of them. You are also going to need authorizations from the hospital to release her pathology reports to you.
Let me try and get all of this straight: Your wife had a hysterectomy for what I guess was multiple fibroids on her uterous, was she bleeding or they removed them because she was bloated? When they did the hysterectomy the sugeon should have visualized both ovaries while her abdomen was open!
On June 1st why did the surgeon say he needed to remove the (?) right ovary? You will need to know what the pathology report said of the June 1st removal of the (R) ovary. He verbalized to you both that the "other" ovary looked fine, so we are assuming he ment the left? Was the surgery done lapascopically or open abdominal insicion?
On June 6th emergency surgery for ruptured right ovary? If that was taken out on June 1 then how could it have ruptured again? Surgeon could not find the left probably because it was probably removed on the June 1st surgery when they were supposed to remove the right??
The June 6th surgery was it the same surgeon or a different one?
All in all if the ovaries were visualized when your wife had the hysterectomy everything could have been done with one surgey.
All that your wife went thru can be very confusing, you both should sit down and write all the events that took place out as it could be very easy to confuse things. Once you get all your records/tests see if all the pieces fit or it is exactly as you said in your post.
Good Luck and post if you have any more questions.
Kevin
