My complex cyst

Hi There i have a 5-6cm complex cyst on my left ovary, my last scan last week found it was with a septation and possibility of papillary projection. Originally this cyst was found back in april which was then 7.9cm. I decided to try to avoid surgery and took to self healing and alternative therapies. But recently pain has become worsening and my last apointment with my consultant i was advised to have the surgery so that the mass could be removed for a biopsy. Although my CA 125 test was fine. After much thought I am now booked in to have a laparoscopy next thursday (6th dec) with proceed to cysectomy and possible oophotectomy.
But I forgot to ask my consultant a few questions, can you help?

1. For this surgery does it matter whereabout I am in my monthly cycle? as I beleive I may be bleeding at time of surgery. i now this may seem a silly question as I know the procedure.

2. Also I have varicous veins on my left leg, Which alhough have never seeked medical help as do not realy have any symptons, but just wondered if there was any risk with having varicous veims during such surgery? ( My nan had deep vein thrombosis).

3. lastly I have been reading some of the questions on this site and noticed a post about smelly vaginal discharge, which has also been an ongoing issue of mine. But I dont think Ive mentioned this to my consultant. if i do have the infection that Ive read about (sorry cant remember the name). could this be a problem when i have surgery? Should I inform him prior to my surgery day next week. Or would it be ok just to tell him on the day.

4.

Many thanks for any help offered.

I had a oophorectomy 11 days ago for an 8.5cm cyst.  It was performed by laparotomy as the cyst was too big to be removed laparscopically.  I was worried I wouldn't be able to have the operation if I had my period and asked my specialist about this.  He said it didn't matter what time of the month it was done.  They expect some vaginal bleeding after the op although I didn't get much - just a small amount.  I did get my period a few days ago and it seeemed a big more painful than usual but I wasn't sure whether that was because I'm still healing after the op.  Sorry can't answer your other questions, but hope this bit helps.  Good luck.

Hi, I'll not comment about #1 and #2 b/c I don't really know.  As for #3, I'd mention it before surgery.  They may want to take a culture.

Good luck with your surgery!
