NAUSEA

My sister has Stage IV cancer.  This is her second round with cancer, had already had her hysterectomy the first time she had cancer, so she was not operated on this time.  The cancer had already traveled to her liver by the time they caught it.  Started chemo immediately and has been on it for 2-1/2 yrs. straight.  She tried Taxol a while ago, but had a reaction to it.  Got off it but was recently put back on it for about 6 weeks/once a week.  Just finished that.  Running out of things to try.  Her doctor told me she is also starting to get water on her lungs/around her heart.  Do you have anything encouraging to tell me?  I know it's bad.  But how bad?

One more thing.  She is unbelieveably nauseous everyday.  She manages to eat (I don't know how), but if you could hear how she sounds, you would be as devastated as I am about it.  Every day ... all day ... nauseous.  She has tried everything her doctor gave her, and marijuana pills.  Nothing helps.  Any ideas?

I have no medical input to add to this but to tell you that I will be praying for you and your sister. I lost my mom to colon cancer in May. I was the most devastating thing I have ever had or ever will have happen to me. I was her caretaker in her last few weeks and watching my beautiful mother who was once vibrant and full of life deteriate right in front of my eyes was horrifying. All I wanted to do was to hold her and make it all better. I am 28 and she was 46. She also left behind a 17 and 14 year old. In my mother's last days she had come to peace with what had happened to her and I saw a sense of calm come over her. I know it is so hard to watch this happen and you want to do everything you can but I learned that in the end all you can do is be there and tell them how much you love them.
