Nausea and Cisplatin

Evening, my sister had her first chemo with Cisplatin. She has been very nauseous for the last 3 days. She has tried drinking ice water, ice chips, propel, ginger ale . She is taking the following ani-nausea medicines zofran every 8 hours and taking promethazine every 4 hours.  Does anyone have any suggestions to help with the nausea? Also if you are on or have had cisplatin , please let us know what your dosage is and how bad the nausea is? Her intial treatment was ( i think ) 160 mg and it is to be given every 28 days. her DR is planning on either doing a reduce dosgae every 2 weeks or 1 a week to help reduce side effects...Thanks Theresa

I had Cisplatin with Gemzar.  First treatment I was so sick I said I would never do another.  I had Emend, Aloxi, Zofran, Compazine, Ativan, Phenergan and every other anti nauseant imaginable.  Could not pass anything between my lips for several days.  Second treatment (done as a promise to my husband) landed me in the hospital for 10 days on IV fluids.  I will not be taking it again.  I would suggest Emend and Aloxi for your sister along with dosage reduction if she plans to continue this treatment.

Hi,

Ashley had cisplatin as part of her chemo cocktail.  It also made her very nauseous.  She had the zofran, which helped some but did not completely control the nausea.  What I believe really helped her out with the nausea that the cisplatin caused was an anti-nausea drug called amend.  That in combination with the zofran controlled her nausea very well.

Take Care and God Bless,
Bob
