Neulasta shot

by bohan54, Aug 08, 2009 07:51AM
First one this week for me.  I know everyone is different but would like to get some feedback on how well folks tolerate this stuff.

Hi, I had 3 and mostly they caused bone pain in my sternum with general achiness all over.  The pain would start about a day after the shot and last for about 3 days.  Everyone is different and will have different side affects.  I felt it was very tolerable.

Hi Sharon,
When I was having carbo/taxol chemo, I needed a Neulasta shot a day or 2 after each treatment and it worked every time.

I did get some bone and joint pain, but I took Tylenol and that took care of it. I guess I was so determined to get the cancer out of my body, that I guess I prepared myself mentally,  to just deal with the side affects, and my oncologist had a solution for any that came up.

Good luck to you, we have to deal with this monster and whatever it throws at us!

I had 6 shots of it the first time I was on chemo.  I had mild bone pain in my legs, but the chemo I was on had that as a side effect, too.  Hard to tell if it was caused by the chemo or the Neulasta.  Either way it was not bad at all.  Once in a while I would take Tylenol.  Marie

the achyness was worth the weakness that it took away....maybe I can be more clear...it did cause me lots of pain in the back/pain but it was much more tolerable than the drained feeling of my blood counts being low and being relegated to my house b/c I had no resistance to anything...so for me...completely worth it.

Okay, girls.....maybe I am just a woos, but, I had extreme pain resulting from the Neulasta.   I got the injection within the hour following my chemo......maybe that is why it was so hard on me.  It caused me so much pain I was unable to sleep at night even after taking a sleeping pill.  I ended up getting something for the pain so I could sleep......heck, the pain pill alone put me to sleep.
Every bone in my body felt like it was exploding.....especially my sternum, ribs, feet and hips.
I am just lucky to have spoken to a young man who was a dancer. He was unable to teach his classes because he was in so much pain after his injection, but after 4 days he was okay again.
Anyway, that is my experience with this stuff.  I hope you are as lucky as so many others who take it in stride!
Good luck, kid!
Peace.

For some reason this last chemo I was not offered Neulasta.  My counts were low and I had miss chemo for a few weeks.  I agree with onthemendmomma that the feeling of the low blood counts is awful compared to the Neulasta.  Marie

I've had several of the Neulasta shots as well.  I had bone pain in the lower back and lower ribcage plus general achiness for a few days.   All very manageable with Tylenol.

Take Care

Thanks for the input.
I am so scared to go back in the chemo chair on Wednesday after my last session.  Did not want to fear this too.

My mom told  me the shots were painful to get but did not suffer from bone pain, possibly because she has neuropathy in both hands and feet she did not feel the pain from shots

I had Neulasta a week to ten days after my chemo and, maybe because nobody told me there might be side effects, I never noticed the difference.  Don't look for trouble.

I had neulasta with carbo/taxol and also have something called neupogen later on. The neulasta I tolerated pretty well. I did have some leg pain but nothing so serious that I couldn't walk or anything like that. Actually it was worth it to keep my white count high so I did not have to miss any treatments. And it only lasted for a couple of days. I hope that it woks as well for you and that you have no problems from it.

Okay, I need explanation. What is the neulasta for? Something to do w/blood counts?

Neulasta and Neupogen are for boosting white blood counts.
