Neupogen for low white counts

by crecco, Oct 26, 2007 12:36PM
Previously while on chemo and experienceing low white counts, I recieved Neulasts shots as a booster to bring them back up. Since I have been on Gemzar, when my counts are down I have recieved Neupogen. It seems now that my white counts are gong to be my biggest problem. My onc does not want to take me off of Gemzar as it seems to be working. This week after my treatment, I was sent home with a 3 day supply of Neupogen to give myself. I have found that 3 days in a row of this really kicks me in the butt, and I was just starting to get adjusted to the Gemzar. I was just wondering if anybody out there has had this and experienced any of the same side effects. (headache, fatigue, slight fever, pretty much flu like symptoms) Thanks  Chris

I used neupogen every chemo treatment for 3 days also and it kicked my a--s.  My biggest problem was with bone pain.. BUT... my white cell count was great throughout... wish I could say the same for the red blood cells... needed transfusions... hey but I never got sick, flew on an airline and my white cell was great... I took darvocet for the discomfort which is mild....and took the headache etc away....
Hope you are feeling better soon... Ronni
