Newly diagnosed brain tumor

by Christa54, Jul 13, 2007 12:00AM
Received some devastating news this week after my brain MRI.  They found a new brain lesion in the temperol area of my brain which apparently did not respond to the whole brain radiation treatments that I received after the gamma knife sugery.  I see the neurosurgeon in about a week to discuss options.  One of the larger lesions has also increased in size which would account for my increased symptoms.

Added to this is the fact that I was unable to take my chemo last week because my blood counts were too low.  Topotecan is known drop your counts.

I'm feeling a bit discouraged but know that God is in charge and knows what He's doing.  Just thought I'd share my lastest news--I appreciate your prayers.

Christa,
I'm so sorry to hear this. I am hoping it can be gamma knifed. You said that one of the lesions has increased. Maybe it is necrosis. When I had my first tumor removed in 2004, the other smaller one was gamma knifed. Over the year it seemed to grow somewhat and I had that removed a year later in 2005. When I got the pathology report it said no cancer. Gamma knife killed it but not according to the MRI. So, Christa, please keep hoping.

I'll be praying for you,
Helen

Christa, I am so sorry to hear your news. Gosh, it makes me feel like cursing a blue streak!!  I hope the doctor's appointment gives you some new options.  I know you probably won't feel like it, but please post after your appointment and let us know what the neurosurgeon says.  Until then, I will continue praying and sending you all the positive vibes I can.

The Topotecan was hard on me this time, but my counts didn't go as low as they did after the first treatment.  The white was at 2.8 on Monday, so I had Neulasta.  Haven't checked since then.  All this stuff just seems like luck of the draw.  When will you have your next treatment?

Gail, I had to skip my last treatment because my Hb was ony 10 and my platelets dropped to 67,000.  It makes me nrevous to know that I'm not receiving any treatment as the cancer continues to grow.  My next  session is scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday.

I'm pinning my hope on the gamma knife procedure, I know that traditional surgery in this area of the brain is not an option.  But I have to wait until the 23rd to get any answers so until then, we wait.

It sounds like you may have started to tolerate the Topotecan better as you went along.  I hope for the same results!
