Newly diagnosed

by MRW, Feb 03, 2006 12:00AM
'Never thought I'd be on a site like this... My Mom had surgery two weeks ago to remove an ovarian tumor and in fact she has been diagnosed with Stage I clear cell ovarian cancer. Stage I is always preferable but I understand clear cell is the most aggressive type with the worst prognosis. Her chemotherapy will begin in two weeks. Does anyone have information, statistics, anything that might help my sister and I better understand what we're dealing with? We're trying to educate ourselves so we can be as proactive as possible in getting her the best help we can find. Thanks all!

While clear cell carcinomas are often categorized as 'very aggressive', the stage of discovery is the most important factor.    Statistically speaking,  when compared by stage  to other ovarian cancers, the clear cell epithelial tumors have the same general prognosis.  Given that your mother's cancer has been removed at Stage I and she is already about to begin chemotherapy, she might have a good prognosis if her other health conditions support the treatments.

You have my prayers for a successful line of treatment.
