Thanks to everyone who posted and especially MickeyVicki - I do feel so much better after reading your posts. I was indeed going through the most tremendous amount of stress at that time and I also think some depression. The dizzy spells for no reason is what scared me the most as well as that terrible pain for the few minutes that it did last. I am currently not working and don't have health insurance anymore to go check it out but as soon as I do, I'm going right back to the gynecologist where I just moved to and ask them. Thanks again!
Thanks for everyone who helps me figure this out! The question I didn't have enough space to include was - could I in fact have had a cyst, it ruptured and then when I finally went to the doctor about it they couldn't see anything on the US because it was already gone?
Yes, get a second opinion. My 1st ultra sound did not show my fibroid. My second U/S was almost a year later and it showed a 3X5 mm fibroid. With all the problems I have, I know I have had this fibroid for a long time. Why it did not show up on the 1st U/S I don't know, but I am going to ask the OB Dr. when I see her tomorrow.
I don't know if it could be this but... two of my sister in laws and my mom and now my brother in law all had to have their gall bladder removed. The symptoms were also bloating extremely sharp pains in the pelvic area, sometimes felt as if they had food poisoning. All of them and expecially my mom and 1 sister in law went through about 1 year of tests before the doctors realized what the problem was. One thing that also triggered attacks was what they ate. Especially spicy foods and one sister in law had to cut out coffee. I know my sister in law got checked for endometriosis, cysts, etc. when they found out it had nothing to do with that. I thought I would pass this information to you just in case it may not have anything to do with your ovaries. Hope this helps it might be worth mentioning to your doctor. Also remember cysts can come and go during your menstrual cycle and it could be as simple as that.
I have experienced what you describe - acute pain and cramps, bloating, dizziness, cold sweats, nausea, tendency towards panic attacks or simply feelings of paranoia, fainting, and a disfuntional digestive tract. The really acute attacks of the pain, cold sweats, fainting, dizziness, and nausea lasted only minutes but were completely debilitating during those few minutes; then afterwards I felt ... well... just 'not right' if you know what I mean, for the rest of the day (or night in one case). My experiences were few and far between (just 6 or 7 of these attacks in some 20 years) but mine were associated with the start of my monthly cycle, when I had just started or was about to start my period. My doctor diagnosed these attacks as being a severe form of a "menstrual migraine." She said that just before our periods start, we have low levels of hormones, primarily estrogen. In women with sensitive systems, this lack can cause problems like these symptoms and they are usually triggered by something "outside" of our bodies. She gave the example of stress being a cause, and I believe that two of my 'attacks' were likely triggered by the stresses of college exam weeks. I know that caffeine can be a trigger of migraines in general, and I think it interesting that you mention the coffee. Some foods supposedly can cause these things. However, for me, I recall that just standing up in one case, and in another case rolling over in bed, could trigger the episode. Heat, as in hot weather, seemed to be a problem for me at least once. As for the spotting, it is my understanding that is one characteristic of "running out of estrogen."
So, it is likely that there is indeed nothing wrong with you at all, but it never hurts to seek a second opinion, especially when something is troubling you. I strongly believe that stress, fear, and worry can have negative effects on our health.
Get another opinion. You know your body the best and if you know something isn't right - tell them. I found this site and it has helped me tremendously, but I'll tell you - I knew I had another cyst before they even told me..... I was asking here what everyone thought but for some reason...I knew. The groin pain, the sharp shooting pains, etc. Call another gyn....
