OVARIN CYST

HI, MY NAME IS BEATRICE AND I'M 25 YEARS OLD. I HAD MANY PROBLEMS REGUARDING MY STOMACH AND DURING AN PELVIC ULTRASOUND. MY DOCTOR INFORMED ME THAT I HAVE CYST IN MY OVARIES. I BEEN EXPERIENCING A LOT OF PAIN. IS THIS THE CAUSE OF MY CYST? WHAT CAN I DO MY DOCTOR JUST TELL'S ME TO TAKE MY MEDS AND THEY WILL GO AWAY,BUT I'VE HAD THEM SINCE I WAS 17 YEARS OLD. CAN I GET THEM REMOVED, OR WHAT CAN I DO?

Ovarian cysts can be harmless but painful. They should be watched, though. You can Google ovarian cysts and get some good info about "watchful waiting" which is what they have been doing with me for about 1 and a half years. Usually the fluid-filled cysts go away (but I always got new ones). Mine only ached a little - no bad pain.

BUT in watching the cysts it was discovered in Dec. that I had developed a solid cyst. My Dr. has been watching this every month with a sonogram and it is not going away (is growing, in fact) so we have decided to remove it via laparoscopy.

My first gyno didn't tell me anything about cysts and told me to wait and see what my first cyst did.  He never explained what a cyst actually was and that watching it was a common way to begin with a cyst. I changed to a wonderful doctor who explains everything to me and is patient with my questions. I feel very comfortable with my new gyno.

I'd suggest going to another gyno if you feel this one isn't giving you the info you want.  I would not be content with being told to stay on pain meds and just wait for it to go away unless everything was explained to me first!

What type of cysts are they?  Are they the "same" ones or new ones that develop around the time of ovulation?  Are you on the pill?

What about a 2nd opinion?

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
