One of my stitches is outside the incision!
I had laproscopic surgery on the 3rd of April. the stip came off my navel a few days ago. I was itching it and I felt something and looked and a string is hanging out of the incision. One of the stitches is hanging out of the incision. It is sore and slightly red. I put a band aid over it. I am going to the surgeon on Wednesday. Should I wait or call tomorrow. I am not having a great day today- If I'm not worrying about one thing there is always something. Kind of a blah day.
Still tired, nap 2-3 hours a day.

I can't believe how much better I feel. I off all meds, an occasional Advil. I haven't needed to nap in 4 days. I stopped at my school to see my kids - and pick up all the work the lazy sub didn't correct AGAIN. I am so $%&**^. I was a great feeling to have the kids especially my 8th grade class- I acted like I was gone for a year. I needed that. Getting so bored at home since I still am limited. I am going back to school next Wednesday I'll sit for a few day. thanks for caring I'm going to Kohl's today - what a sale- went yeasterday and bought a $45 shower curtain for $5. Do I need one NO but can't pass up a bargain. Talk to you soon
How're you doing today? Having fun playing with your incision? Isn't it just excrutiatingly boring lying around?!! But it is important to heal well at this time in your recovery... I am glad you have a nice doctor!

I just got back from the doctor's office- He said the small incision was fine and it is normal for it to be a little irritated. He cut the stitch off told me to put Bacitracin ointment on it and keep it covered. He also gave a prescription for an antibiotic. This doctor is one of the best ob/gyn oncologist from NYC. Right, I'm sorry, I missed that somehow about the sick days. Are you able to negotiate for more at all? Gee I sure know how tough it is. I remember one time working until 8:00 pm to get everything ready for a sub...and that was to miss ONE day! It's such a difficult profession because you set things up for you and your students and it is practically impossible to turn it over to someone in the middle of it all!
That does sound like you may be getting an infection, so glad you are seeing your doctor tomorrow. I found I really didn't sleep like ZZZzzzZZZZZzzz but I just kind of zoned out during the days when I was recovering...laid around, read a bit, it's pretty lousy TV in the daytime eh!

My doctor first told me that he wanted me out for 6 weeks- I am the one who is pushing the issue since I have probably 5 sick days left to use. The first week in May I'll only have to teach 3 and 1/2 days. I am going to take next week off for sure- if I feel like I do right now the $%^&^ with the money. I won't be able to do it. I slept 2 hours this afternoon and did not take any pain pills. I am concerned now because the small incision where the stitch is half out is getting infected. I changed the band-aid and there is pus around the incision and I have had what seenms to be "inside chills all day" I know when I go to the doctors tomorrow. thanks for keeping in touch
Just another thought...I made sure that I didn't get constipated, as I had BAD bowel pain if I did... drank tons of fruit juice and choked down Metamucil.
I hate that you have to tip toe around subs...the good ones are hard to find.
Could you perhaps beg a letter from your doctor asking for more time? It's not a big deal to him is it? I was supposed to go to court and my doc gave me saying I was unavailable for 6 weeks.
You had a HUGE surgery...it's months before you are 100%.
The deaf/spec needs kids were wonderful and very rewarding ... the paperwork a killer... and the politics....ick

AnotherTeacher here...I taught since 1978, mostly spec ed and deaf kids ... happily retired! I think I would complain about your substitute (you guys call them supply teachers I believe?) She obviously isn't trying to get on full time! Grrrr she could have marked the stuff, not nice!

I know that preparing for a sub is much harder than actually showing up and teaching...but your health is more important. Could just be the year you were unable to meet everyone's expectations you know...look after yourself or you could end up sicker yet again....

great to talk to another teacher- I did complain and the principal told me not to say anything (she know I will in a second)to her. She said we need her as a sub and she might get mad. I had been in touch with my union weeks before my surgery about disability. They informed me that when a teacher goes on a sick leave - No work is to be done for school- if so then I am supposed to negotiate for more sick days. I think I run out of sick days this week or part of next - so I won't get paid for the rest of the time I am off. I 'm not ready to go back -I got scare yesterday- I had a pain in my left side where the ovary/cyst/tumor was - it hurt for most of the day. I would have called the surgeon but he is 2 hours away so I took a pain pill and rested. I'm better today. My app't is tomorrow- the stitch is still hanging out of the incision. It must have been so rewarding to teach the deaf- I'm looking forward to retiring I'll be 54 next week- a few more years - kathy
I had both ovaries removed, a cyst and a small tumor on the 3rd of April. the doctor also said he removed scar tissue from my last surgeries. I had my uterus out at age 30, nissen fundoplication 1999(for GERD, made a new 'valve or flap' under my esophagus - had severe refux for years no medication helped. Had a vaginal prolapse and the intestinal wall fell into the vaginal canal and my bladder dropped in 2003. That was the worst pain- I would have rather delivered triplets all at once!!!! Not causing any scar tissue I also had a pacemaker implanted in 2000 (the wrong one for my condition) so three months late I had a medtronic pacemaker implanted in NYC. Thank God for top doctors in the city- Now I go there for everything. Had a cat scan found I have polycystic liver disease and there is no more room for them to grow- may be looking a part of the left lobe being taken out. I've had it - no wonder I'm on medication for anxiety. thanks for listening I'm just anxious this morning - more than usual- getting bored and can't do too much. Love to read but I stepped on my glasses yesterday!!!!!!
I had laparoscopic surgery but they did not remove anything. I was back to work in 10 days. I had surgery on a Friday and went back 2 Tuesdays after. Everyone is different-just listen to your body.
I have been teaching Literature/English at the middle school level (6-8) for 22 years. I also teach 8th grade math. Getting all the lessons ready for my leave was so stressful. I even left the answer keys for all the work- I had the first week of work sent home to me - nothing was corrected. I had to correct, do averages, send grade to the other teachers. NOW I have to complete my report cards by the 20th!!!! As you know this is so stressful- Is slept three hours last night just thinking about what I have to get done. you . I teach a private school in upstate NY (Hudson Valley) I could teach at a public school, but I don't have to be concerned about the major disipline problems at the middle school level. what do you teach? by the way I doubt very highly I will be going back next week ( had laproscopy surgery- at age 53 I not recovering as fast as I did when I had previous surgeries. How long did it take for you to get back to work or feel 100% again. I am a teacher and am so worried about when to go back to work. Being out is so stressful for me yet I know now I couldn't do it.
It couldn't hurt to give the surgeon's office a call and see what they say. They can tell you whether to wait or come in.
