Teresa is right. Usually when you have a recurrence shortly after having surgery or finishing the carbo/taxol, another chemo is used. Unfortunately this cancer has a mind of its own and the possibility of recurrence is always there. But there are many different chemo drugs that can be tried and many of them are not as harsh as the original. I wish you both the best of luck.
Chris
Do any of you know what category your ovarian cancer is in? Have you read the reports?
A rule of thumb some of the ONC's use is that if your cancer comes back in less than three months...they do not use the carbo/taxol again. They use another chemo, sometimes Doxil.
If you have not completed your Profiles, please do so to help us remember who you are and the situation you have with your DX.
I am 53, April '08 found 10cm tumor resting on Bladder CA 125 at 147. Had surgery at MD Anderson, hysterectomy, Stage II. Had 6 treatments of Carbo platinum/toxol till Sept. CA 125 at 3, then symptoms came back in May. Had CT Scan in Jan., nothing, Dr. appt. in April with pelvic exams by two dr.'s and found nothing. Went back May 1, due to symptoms and they found a 6 centimeter tumor resting on my colon. Had biopsy and found out today it is cancer. No surgery, but start chemo this next week. I will do Carbo -platinum/toxol. Not sure how long. I am about your mom's age, Stage II, and about 6 months out of chemo. We were supposed to have only a 70% chance of recurrence and our numbers were low. I wish you and your mom the best of luck and hope it has not returned.
Hello. A reocurrance of ovarian cancer is treated by chemo again. Nobody knows why we recurr but it happens to an awful lot of us. I am certain your mom's oncologists will recomment she begin another round of chemo.....which ones I don't know; especially since she had such difficulties the first time around. Hopefully this round will offer a much longer remission. Please give your mom our best. Good luck to you both.
Peace.
