Ovarian Cancer?

HI all,

I had a question and wanted to ask the doctor on the forum but it said it had already reached the daily limit.  First, I am 38 years old and havent ever really used birth control and I have no children.  I have had some lower left abdomen and pelvic pain for several months....had an ultrasound and the PA at my GYN's office said that I probably have a problem with my bowels.  I had a colonscopy and everything was clear.  Thank God!  But the pain became more intense on the left side and I also have a bit of a swollen tummy and indigestin now for a month.  I went to my family doctor and she did a c125 test witch came back at 21.5 (within normal range).  I had a ct scan and it said I had minimal fluid in the cul-de-sac and a hypodense place in my endrometrium.  The family doctor said it was normal for a woman of my age.  I then went and saw the gynecologist again and he said he would do a laprascopy.  I asked him for another  ultrasound too.  His PA ordered the first one that was done.  It was preformed  in their office on 9-19-2011 and the one I had done at the hospital was done on 10-7-2011.  The first one the measurements were as follows: 1.73 cm x 1.15 cm x 1.34 cm for the right ovary and the left ovary was 2.13 cm x 1.27 cm x 1.28 cm.  Then just a few weeks later the right ovary was 2.6 cm x 2.8 cm x 2.1 cm.  A round isoechoic more focal area in the right ovary noted, 1.6 cm  x 2.2 cm with may be a small fibroma with or complex cyst.  There is color flow in the right ovary.  Left ovary measures 3 cm x 0.9 cm x 1.3 cm.  Small follicles are present.  Color flow to the left ovary is noted.

Isnt that a big differnece in changes of the ovaries in just a few weeks? I know that the first one was done in their office and not read by a radiologist, could that makea  difference?   Also, can someone tell me more about the 'cyst' that they said they found and also about the follices in the left ovary?   In addition what does color flow to the ovaries mean?

My gyn hasnt called em back yet with the result of this test.  I just picked it up at the imaging center myself. Im of course concerend with all of my symptoms that this could be ovarian cancer.  I asked my gyn if I should see a gyn/oncologist.  I know they think I am over reacting and he said he woudl check and he never has gotten back with me.  I didnt know if a regular gyn did the laprascopy if it could spread a possible cancer.  Anyway, Im just not sure what to do.  Thanks for your help.

Oh and the reason I was wondering about my ovary size is because it did increase so much (according to the ultrasounds), overa three week period...almost bya  centimeter.  So I thought there could be something inside of the ovary (or outside) that is making it grow.Do you have any ideas regarding that?  I just cant figure out why they cant find anything when I have the pain.  And after the pelvic exam from the gyn my lower left abdomen just ached all night.  Anyway, thanks again.

Okay, thank you.  Maybe I wouldnt be so concerned if I didnt feel like I have the indegistion problems, pain, bloating,e tc.  I just think, could they have missed something in the testing??  Oh & I did call the gyno/oncologist office and they said they'd only see me by referal.  Maybe if I went out of town to a larger city that would be different.  Anyway, thanks for your help.  Maybe laproscopy would show something that is going on.  Anyway, I really apprecaite your help.  God bless you.

See another GYN for another opinion.  See what that GYN says, you can always send the scan reports etc to the GYN/Oncologist, that will let them know if they feel the "need" to see you.

It's scary....I admit....remember Ovarian Cancer is a rare disease...and it wouldn't be based on the size of your ovaries, but, the size, shape and make up of the tumors that are on your or in your ovaries.

Thanks for your answers.  I had a CT scan that showed nothing.  I KNOW this is going to sound paranoid, but I'm trusting a radiologist that I have never even met.  I know nothing if he was right or missed something.  I looked around the area and did a internet search to see if I could find another radiologist to take a look for a second opinion but that yileded little information.  They dont think I have ovarian cancer...Im the one concerned.  I just dont know how I can have all that pain on my left side, abdomen swelling, and indigestion & they cant explain it.  thats why the doctor suggessted the laprascopy.  Is it odd that the two ultrasounds (done at different locations & one read by the tech & the other by the radiologist), would have such different ovary sizes for me .  I just dodnt know if it was an error or if something is going on.  I want to get a second opinion, but a gyn is the easiest to see around here in my area bc we only have two gyno/oncolgists who stay really busy.  Unless my doctor says he thinks its cancer Im not sure if theyd even see me.

First of all....if they suspect Ovarian Cancer, please be seen by a GYN/Oncologist, they are the experts and it has been proven that someone has a better prognosis when the surgery is done by a GYN/Oncologist....that said, the cysts that you ahve are rather small, and you are still at the age where you menstruate, so depending on where you are in your cycle, things could be different.   Can they repeat the sonos?  What about a CT Scan?
If it were me, I would try everything first before surgery.  Birth control pills?  A 2nd opinion?
