Ovarian Cancer

Hi Dr,
My question is similar to Ang80 and Chardy (close threads). My Mum has Mixed mullerian tumour and sadly she has now been given 3 months to live despite intense treatment. She is 73. I had an ultrasound in December which uncovered a lhs simple cyst and a rhs haemhorragic cyst. No one seemed concerned and no follow up was talked about. I am now concerned, should I be?. Please would you mind outlining the screens or tests which I should do regularly as a cautinary measure. My Mum's Dad died of lung cancer, My Mum also had bladder cancer (in last 5 years) and My Dad is a prostate cancer survivor. No other history of breast or ovarian cancer.
Thank you very much for your advice,
Kind Regards

Hi there,
please see my comments for Ang and Chardy. You should get a repeat ultrasound in 6 weeks and a CA 125. If there is any question about the ovarian cyst(for instance, it did not go away, it has gotten bigger, the CA 125 level is elevated), you should have a laparoscopy to look at the cyst and to remove it.

You should also ask you mother if she could get genetic testing done 9 if it can be done where you live). if she has a gene mutation, then you should get tested as well.
take care
