Ovarian Cyst is it cancer

In November I was admitted to Hospital, I was in agony with pains in my right side and down into my leg.  I was also being sick.  They thought it was kidney stones, this pain lasted 3 days whilst I was in hospital, they sent me home and said that I would need a Ultra sound scan.  Three weeks later I went into have the scan and they found out that I did not have any stones.  Yhe Consultant for Urology said I had a clump of cysts or did I miss understand him and he said complex?? on my right ovarie and that I would need to see a Gyn. Consultant urgent.  Obviously I was a bit surprised at this.

I have since had a letter from the Consultant to have some more blood test's inc. CA125 and that I need a Ct scan. My Mother & her sister had cancer although I do not know if it was ovarian or cervical.  My Consultant is not aware of this as I have not seen him yet until after CT scan and I have not had any results for blood test.  Am I worrying for no reason?

The tests that the consultant has ordered are routine when a complex cyst is found.  These test results will give the consultant more  information about your cyst.  Unfortunately, as you have already learned if you have read some of the other posts on this page, the only way to truly determine if the cyst is benign or malignant is to remove it and have a pathologist study it.  Please ask your family what type of cancer your female relations had so that you can inform the consultant at your appointment.

What different information do they get from the CT scan that they didn't from the ultra sound?

Also, I cannot ask my mother or her sister what type of cancer they had, as they both died in their late 50s approx 10 years ago

A CT scan, in the event the cyst or tumor is cancerous, will indicate if the disease has spread beyond the ovary into other organs or structures in the abdomen.

Can you locate any other relatives or perhaps friends or neighbors of your mother or aunt who might recall what type of cancer they had?

My stomach is so bloated, I have even had people asking when the baby is due,  It is solid and uncomfortable.  Just a dull ache on right-side most of the time.  Do you think I will have to have a hysterectomy, especially as I've had my tubes tied.  Obviously I do not want to have anymore children.

The Urologist also said that the Mirena Coil needed to come out, but I did not understand hjis accent to know why.
