Ovarian Cyst :lower stomach and back pain

I am a 34 mother of 4 with no family history of ovarian cancer.  I went to the Dr. for lower back & stomach pain during ovulation thru end of period.  Diagnosed with Mittsch something or other.  I told her I wanted a ultrasound on my cysts since I had had cysts before, she reluctantly agreed.  Results came back as a size 3  midly-complex cyst.  She ordered a CA-125 which came back as a 16.  She scheduled me for another ultrasound in 6 weeks and just said we would keep an eye on it.  I was just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this.

Hi Sportsmom,
I had mid-pain as it is also called since puberty.  It can be quite severe!  I didn't get the really severe pain every month which I always attributed to a small "functional" cysts rupturing, then it was dang near unbearable for about three days.  Mine did time out with ovulation and was not always the same side.  I was diagnosed in the seventies before there was such a thing as an ultrsound but I was lucky enough to see the first female GYN on base (I was active duty AF in Europe at the time).  My troubles with recurring functional cysts decreased once I had kids to only a couple of painful bouts a year.  You mentioned you had had issues with cysts before, was this the first time you had a US?  Did you have this problem before you had the kids?  Hang in there Sportsmom and keep us posted.  MV

I have Mittleschmertz since I have been 16 years old, only on one side(right) Just recently the pain has gotten unusually bad. Pain down my leg, pressure on my butt, pain so bad I can't sit, stand, or walk,it feels like my navel is being be pulled out. I had an Tranvaginal Ultra sound with Doppler.  It showed a very small nodular on my right ovary.  I too have been referred to repeat the ultrasound at the 6 week mark. Meanwhile, you wait and wonder.  I requested a CA-125 which was neg.  All as I can say is keep on doctor.  If you don't understand something keep questioning until you do.  Make a list of questions.  Hopefully, knowledge, friends and this group will help you get solice until the next ultrasound
My doctor has told a nodule that small couldn't cause that much pain.  Well he is not in my body.
Mittleschmertz can be very painful.  Mine however, up until 6 months ago has been bearable.
Keep track of the severity of the pain.  Note if it's worse on one side or the other.
I hoped this helped.
I would like to thank all of you for your help and kind words.

Hi there.  I was dx'd with Mittleschmertz when I was in my 20's.  I always know when I ovulate and experience a great deal of pain at that time.  But the diagnois of Mettleschertz came when I rushed to the ER doubled over in pain.  After the diagnois I stopped going in and just took more advil and waited for the pain to pass.

Hope all goes well for you.

Ovarian cysts can cause all sorts of pains, which is why they are hard to dx without the tvus.  Usually, they do not do anything unless the cyst is 5cm or larger.  Looks like you are in the dreaded watch and wait mode.  Sometimes these cysts do resolve on their own...this can be painful but at least they are gone.  Although 99% of ovarian cysts are benign, you are wise in seeking medical attention.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed
