Ovarian Cyst with Structures...Worried

by jet73, Sep 02, 2003 12:00AM
Hello,
I'm a 30 year old mother of 3. I saw my Nurse Practictioner at my OB's office on Friday due to continual dull ache in my abdomen and pain in my right lower abdomen with intercourse. I've also felt bloated, and been somewhat "gassy". My stomach also seems to protrude a little more, whereas it normally doesn't.

I ended up having a transvaginal US with indicated an ovarian cyst on my right ovary measuring 5.2 X 2.3 cm. She stated that she would speak to my OB as to plan of care (birth control pills possible etc....) but did mention that it was fluid filled, with some structures.  I didn't know what this meant until I've been reading on the internet! I'm now quite scared that it could be cancerous.

I have no family history of ovarian cancer, breastfed my children, first child at age 20. What is the chance that this is benign vs. malignant? The Dr. wants me to wait for one cycle to see if it goes away, than hormones, and if that doesn't work, surgery. Do you think the odd shape could suggest a suspician of malignancy?  How about the structures?

Thanks for you help!

Jen
