Ovarian Cysts

by eryn212, Nov 22, 2004 12:00AM
I have just returned from the doctor where I had an ultrasound done that revealed 5 small cysts in my left ovary and 1 in my right ovary. The ultrasound technician said they were functional cysts, but then my doctor said I might have PCOS. He asked about irregular periods and any other symptoms of PCOS. I display no excess body hair, am of normal weight, and do not have diabetes. My question is, I have been on Triphasal-28 for almost 5 years and have never developed any cysts and I know birth control pills cause you not to develop any, so why have I developed them now? Is my birth control not effective and should I get on another kind, and since I have no other symptoms do I really have PCOS? I am only 23 and am healthy and the thought of infertility is scary. So, everything I read on cyst talks about one, is it possible to have more than one functional cyst without having PCOS and if so why did my birth control not control my cycle this past month or months, when I have been taking the same brand for 5 years?
