Ovarian Mass ?

Ovarian Mass ?

Hello ladies, I'm new to this board and need some insight.  I'm 40 yrs old w/ a 3yr old daughter.  Back in 2001 I went through a successful IVF cycle to conceieve my daughter.  Found out in Jan 06 that we were preggo again and MC at 8 weeks. BUT prior to MC we had US done on 1/17/06, 1/26/06, 2/3/06. Which all mentioned the size of my left ovary being a little larger than the Right.  So in turn I asked my ob/gyn about the cyst that was mentioned on the 1st and 2nd report but not on the 3rd . So she sent me for another scan a few weeks ago and the radiologist recommened that i do a MRI because the left ovary was promenatly (sp) larger than the right as listed before.
The following day my ob/gyn calls and states that there is a possible " fatty mass" and wanted me to consult with her the next day as well as p/u the films. Upon picking up the films the D.O. wanted to speak with me and states it looks like a solid mass. ( i went to a differnt place to have the mri done, vs my us's while preggo, my dr doesnt know this dr) So my ob/gyn has me drop off my films to the radioligt whoms she deals with and recommends and he states that it DOES NOT look abnormal and the texture may look different.   Now this friday I have an appt ( iguess  to be on the safe side) with my ob/gyn oncologist for futher testing.    Also she did a CA-125 test on friday, I day before my period at it came back slightly elevated in the 60's.

Can anyone give me any insight with there own or other experience.  What other questions should i ask the gyn oncologist?

thank you
Joan  :-)

Hello just kindw trying to get a fill of what you are asking also, what is Ivf? My reason for asking is because when I had the us done and they spotted my mass a doctor was called in and he asked me if I had ever taken any type of fertility drugs I said "No" and I asked why and he stated that would explan why my overy was extreamly large.
Are you set up for sergery (surgery)?
My prayers are with you.

Yes I did do a In-vitro treatment back in 2001 with the use of Lupron, Gonal-F and Progesterone....I only used progesterone this time when I was preggo for several weeks before i MC.

I too have gotten different feedback from different radiologists.  One says I have a cyst on my right ovary, two others say it's a fluid-filled thing unrelated to either ovary but located between them.  Imaging isn't perfect and different drs read things differently.  FRUSTRATING, isn't it?

It sounds like this has been there long enough that it's not going to go away on its own.  I'd ask the gyn/onc about a laparascopy to remove whatever this thing is, and how the surgery would affect your chances of a future pregnancy (since it sounds like you are hoping for more children).  Sometimes they can leave the ovary, sometimes they can't.

The odds are very high that this "thing" you have is benign, but I wouldn't ignore it in the rare case it's not.  Plus, it's a relief to get it out and find out once and for all that it's benign!

hey diana, i too went through ivf. that's when they first found a cyst on my ovary. the ivf didn't work. but also just as fyi thing, the medications that we were on also plays a part in cyst and masses. is the doctor you seeing now aware of this? i would also ask about the lap. as well. they don't know until they test it. take care and Gob Bless
