Ovarian Mass

This has been an emotional week for my family! Two weeks ago during my mom's yearly appt the doctor felt a mass on her ovary. She then went in for an ultrasound and they saw a mass on her ovary, my mom said about the size of a dime. When she got her results back it said to contact the doctor (who has been away all weekend) to schedule a biopsy for it displayed some liquid and solid components within the mass. Researching the risk factors and preventative research done for ovarian cancer my mom has a low chance. She has had 4 kids (2 before turning 39), had her tubes tied, has taken birth control for many years to regulate her period. We have no history of cancer on her side at all (no breast, ovarian, colon etc...). She is pre-menopausal and just turned 52. I read that many masses are benign but am still worried since they are doing a biopsy. I am out of my mind with worry, and googling is scaring me to death! My question to those who have experienced this is does a biopsy mean cancer? So if the doctor's find something they want to test, are they usually right?

No a biopsy does not mean cancer....her doctor is being proactive.  Many doctors would wait and watch to see what is going on.  The fact that there are some solid componets are why the doctor is doing a biopsy.

I know that it is easier said then done, but, try hard not to worry.  There will be plenty of time to worry when you know what you are dealing with...and the odds are that you are worrying for nothing, as most cysts are benign.

Let us know how it goes.
