Ovarian Tumor

I have a question have you ever heard of an ovarian tumor on the right ovary that was large enough to push on the vein in your right leg to cause a blood clot?

I can somewhat answer your question.  When I was in the ER last month, I had/have cysts on both sides (but the left side was causing so much more pain).  I told them all of my symptoms, i.e., lots of pain in ovary region, pelvic pain/cramps, pain around the hip and back, AND PAIN DOWN MY LEFT LEG (caps for you).  They ordered blood, urine, an ultrasound, and a vascular test of my left leg to look for blood clots.  I didn't ask them if they thought the cyst was pressing on a vein, but maybe that was their thoughts.  I did not have a clot.  However, I have read on this forum that some women with cysts end up with thrombosis (blood clots) so hopefully someone will come along to further answer your question.

Best to you........ Elizabeth

I would like to thank you for your information.  I have not been scheduled for the oophrectomy yet.  I am waiting for The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute and Dr. Neil J. Finkler to help me as far as surgery.  Honestly, I am ready for surgery because of the pain that I am in.

Hi Tinkerbell,  I had an ovarian tumor in my left ovary.  It used to swell up my left leg and I also had a nagging cough.  Doctor said that my tumor was shedding blood clots and they were getting lodged into my lungs.  I was put on Fragmin until I finished treatment.  Fragmin is a blood thinner.

So this could be a possibility for me also then.  I did not learn about the possibility of having a tumor on my ovary effecting my leg until a doctor in Delray Beach read some information which was faxed to him by another registered nurse.  He is not my doctor but he is just basing his opinion on what he is reading.  But I am still waiting onthe Florida Hospital Cancer Institute in Orlando.  They come highly, highly recommended and are ranked number one.  I am excited about the treatment but truly I am just ready to get some relief because I am so swollen and my mother says to me today, " Oh my you look and you walk like you are about eight months pregnant."  I am styling maternity wear like it is the best attire that I have right now.  I was a size 14 and now I am a size 18 but all the swelling is in my stomach and my right leg.

I would like to let you all know that I have surgery scheduled on Feb 11, 2008 for my DVT.  I am getting a filter.  I am pleased to say that I have seen the filter and touched it also.  It looks like a daddy long legs.  I am also scheduled for another surgery on Feb 13, 2008.  This one is for my laparoscopy-possible laparoscopic right saipingo and also oophorectomy-possible exploratory laparotopy.  Bleeding is less than 5%, Infection is less than 10% and injury is less than 1%.  I know that I am happy because I finally have doctors that actually listen and they treat you like you are somebody not just a number coming through the hospital.  All the surgeries are being done in The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute in Orlando.
