Ovarian and utrine cancer screening

by Colene, Jul 22, 2007 11:38AM
Hello,
I am in the beginning of this process.  I am 54 years old, menopause, overweight and was told I have a mass in my uterus, thickening in the lining...the day I was to have the polyp/mass removed I had an elevated HCG level...only 5.1 but elevated enough to say I was pregnant which I was not.  Well Friday they went in with a hystescope and d @ c ...they removed the polyp but because of its size had to resection it to get it out in pieces.  We have no idea if I have cancer or not....the biospys were preformed with this procedure.  Does anyone know if it is cancer by resecting the mass to remove it could it spread cancer cells if cancer?  We were told it would be removed in one solid removal.  I also have cyst on my ovaries and one enlarged ovary.  Nothing of signifcate size or concern at this time.  Would any of you recomend switching to a GYN onocolgy specialist?  I have been recommend I should do this by a good friend who's ex husband is doctor and her daughter specializes on cancer research.  Any information would be greatly appreciated..

Hello ....I believe your friend is definately pointing you in the right direction.....I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in May of '05......I had a laparotomy and during the resection of the tumor there was spillage...because of the spillage I was diagnosed IC rather than I.....so yes ....spillage can cause cells to be spread.  Please do seek the advice of a gyn/oncologist as soon as possible.....make certain your records arrive prior to your visit so they can be reviewed or carry them with you to the appointment....I get copies of all my tests and doctor visits that way I can eview them at my leisure and understand what is going on....hang in there.....stay proactive when it comes to your health care....and, keep us posted....lots of good women , experiences and advice here!
Peace.

To: Thank You
I have been told I could be dealing with two different issues.  The HCG is a tumor finder  I also have had lots of vaginal bleeding.  Do you know anything about the HCG level?  Was your ovarian cancer cut and dry or did you go through the roller coaster it may be or we will wait and see?  I don't need my uteruss or ovarians any longer....wouldn't it be safer since I have all these potential cancer finders going on to have an hysterectomy or am being to unclear with this?  Was your mass on the ovary or in the uterus?  My polyp or mass this is still unclear...(a doctor with few words, he has called it both) was in my uterus.  The ovarian issues came in because of the HCG level being raised.  My utlrasound says I have a cyst on my ovary and the other ovary is slightly enlarged.  I am so confused and don't want to over react but would rather have everything gone instead of waiting till it is full blown cancer...
