Ovarian cancer surgery

My sister had just undergone surgery yesterday. She was diagnosed for stage 4 ovarian cancer. They removed both her ovaries and as I understand, they found cancer cells in the lining of her omentum. They tried to remove the omentum but it was hardly attached to her intestines so they just decided to remove a part of it. My They also removed 4000 cc of ascitis fluid from her stomach.  My question is, if they remove the intestines and reconstruct it, is it possible to do that? If so, how will they be able to reconstruct it and be able to save her life? I have heard from a friend that his sister had ovarian cancer stage 4 and they had to scrape all the cancer from her stomach and reconstruct the tissues around her stomach. Can this type of procedure be possible for my sister? Please help.  Thank you.

I assume you mean the omentum was attached to her intestines?  I am not aware of anyone who had trouble removing the omentum.  That doesn't mean it couldn't happen, I just have not heard of it.  Sections of the intestines have been removed from some of the women on this forum, so hopefully one of them will reply.  I have not heard of anyone losing ALL of their intestines .. there's a lot of it.

My MD had to remove large spots on my bladder and cul-de-sac using the CUSA method.  It looks like a doulbe headed ball point pen .. one side blasts the cancer and the other side ***** it up. (Maybe you should google CUSA method to get a better description).  He left small spots on the mesentary and the diaphram.  The inter peritoneal chemo was supposed to take care of the small spots, and so far, it has.

I wish you and your sister much luck with this devistating disease.  I will keep all of you in my prayers.  Judy

You are having some problems. I had a portion of my intestines removed when they operated on me. Poor doctors. I nearly scared them to death. My heart stopped beating twice so they sewed me up and said come back in a  month. During the next operation I had three doctors attending, my gyno, my cardialogist, and a surgeon to take out part of my intestines. I had no problems with my intestines, except constant constipation. This is caused by my medication, I think. Anyway. all this was 14 years ago, so think good thoughts.
