Ovarian cyst - Cancerous?

I am a 46-year-old woman. I have no children and have never been pregnant. I still have regular periods with no problems. My gynecologist is very cautious and prescribes an annual transvaginal ultrasound for me. I wanted to get your thoughts on the following ultrasound results:

The right ovary measures 2.3 x 2.4 x 1.0 cm and has several subcentimeter follicles. The left ovary measures 2.3 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm and also has several subcentimeter follicles. In addition, there is a 1.3-cm hypoechoic cyst in the left ovary. No free fluid is seen in the cul-de-sac.

Impression: Small complex left ovarian cyst. Suggest follow up evaluation after 2-3 menstrual cycles.

Does this cyst sound like it could be potentially dangerous or malignant? My doctor didn't seem too concerned about it and told me to just get retested in 6-8 weeks, but I tend to worry about things like this since my mother died of cancer (although it was colon cancer). Does hypoechoic make it more or less likely to be malignant? Also, is it possible for a complex cyst to be functional, or are all functional cysts simple cysts?

By the way, there was no solid component to the cyst. My doctor said it was termed complex because it had more than one compartment. I go for my retest soon (I'm waited the six weeks as my doc suggested), but I was wondering if you could provide any insight about how serious this is. Thank you in advance for your time.
