It just depends on how the cyst has affected the ovary.  Also on the skill of your surgeon.  Are you having a gyn/onc do the sx?  That would be the best way to go as they are the most experienced in this area.  I had one ovary removed and 90% of the other.  Plenty of women with such small amounts of ovary have gone on to have several children.  The remaining ovary takes over.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

I had one of my ovaries removed last week but I gave them permission to remove it if need be.  My gyno said my left ovary was in great shape so he had no concern in removing the other.  Being younger like you,I can see your concern.  However, I wouldn't worry and speak to your dr regarding your concern.  He/she can tell you more about whether the ovary can be saved.

Good luck!

Maybe they will do the tvus and find that the cyst has shrank or gone:)  It all depends on the ovary (if it is attached to anything, if it does not look healthy, etc) if it will need to come out.  Sometimes they can just take a portion of the ovary.  I has a 10cm cyst removed from my left ovary a year and a half ago, and he left the ovary.  Unfortunately, 6 months later I had another one and he had to take the ovary.  Good luck.  Kasie

wow u had another one? if i need to operate and they remove the cyst is there a good chance it will come back again? and if so would it help to say, go back in 3mths for another pelvic u/s?

my doc said cos its possibly just a simple cyst- that they can drain it- is that an increase risk there too.....
