I am a 29 year old female who is relatively healthy. Over the weekend, I woke up to a sharp pain on my right side. I dealt with it all day, and by 10 PM it hurt so bad that I went to the ER fearing it was my appendix. I was surprised to find it wasn't my appendix but 2 ovarian cysts. They did a CT scan, along with 2 ultrasounds, 1 of which was internal. The Dr said I had 2 cysts, 1 golf ball size, and the other the size of a marble. I am to follow up with an OBGYN in 6-8 weeks. I suffer from horrible anxiety and each moment is spent wondering how severe this is and the risk of cancer (I have so much of my family to cancer over the past 8 years). I wanted to see if anyone could offer suggestions for me. I am not sure if the results of the Ultrasounds would help at all, but this is what they said. If anyone could offer me suggestions or their input I would greatly appreciate it.
Comments: Exam: Pelvic ultrasound
History: Cystic mass in left side of pelvis on CT pelvis.
Pelvic ultrasound was performed by transabdominal and transvaginal screening.
Comparison: Enhanced CT abdomen and pelvis performed earlier.
Findings: Uterus: 7.4 x 4.5 x 3.1 cm. There is a questionable arcuate uterus.
Endometrium: 7mm normal
Right ovary: 2.1 x 2.7 x 2.5 cm, normal
Left ovary: 5.1 x 3.2 x 5.8 cm, enlarged. The volume is 50 cc. There is a 4.4 x 2.9 x 3.1 cm complex cyst in left ovary which has multiple septations and solid component. A second area of complex cyst in left ovary measures 2.3 x 1.1 x 0.6 cm with irregular structure and solid component.
LMP: 11/16/2007
Free fluid: None
Conclusion: Impression:
1. Two complex cysts in left ovary, as described above. Functional cysts are suspected. Due to the size of cysts and her young age, follow up with pelvic ultrasound in six to eight weeks is recommended
2. Questionable arcuate uterus
There was also almost report regarding the CT scan.
Examination: CT abdomen with contrast
History: Abdominal pain, nausea
Helical CT of abdomen and pelvis was obtained following intravenous administration of 100 cc Isovue-370. Oral contrast was given to opacify the bowel.
Comparison: None
Findings: Lung bases are clear. The liver, spleen, pancreas, adrenal glands, and kidneys are normal. There is no evidence of appendicitis or diverticulitus. No diverticulosis is noted.
Left adnexa: There is a 3.7 x 5.1 complex cyst present with Hounsfield units of 13. The right adnexa is normal. The uterus is unremarkable.
Conclusion: Impression:
1. No acute process in abdomen or pelvis.
2. A 2.7 x 5.1 cm complex cyst in left adnexa. It may represent left ovarian cyst or hydrosalpinx. Follow up with pelvic ultrasound is recommended
