Ovarian tumor or cancer?

Ovarian tumor or cancer?

what does it mean when my gyne-oncologist tells me its contained and curable? I'm scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks for removal of both my ovaries, and a complete hysterectomy. They will do staging as well. Does this mean I have Ovarian Cancer as my onc simply mentioned that my life is not in danger and that everything seems to be contained and that its curable.

I have 2 large ovarian masses in each of my ovary with solid mural nodules component?

What does this mean?

Thanks,

It sounds as if your ONC is being very vague with you.  Did they do a CA125 test on you?  There is no way a doctor can be sure of your Stage and condition until they do the surgery. I'd call him and ask more questions. Did they find the tumor during an ultrasound? The main thing is that you don't worry. Everything could be fine. Wait to see if there is anything to really worry about.

If you could fill out your Profile with more information, it might help us determine your status.

hi thanks for your reply. Yes I had the CA 125 done. 1st one showed elevated at 116  and I also had MRI done so they sent me for more blood tests and CT scan (chest, pelvic & abdomen).

CA125 2nd time around showed 104.

but before all this I had an ultrasound & MRI done and below are the results:

MRI clearly shows he 2 masses. Left one is 13cm and the Right ovary is 9.70cm. and within each mass, there is a solid component of about 3-4cm each.

She hasn't, used the word Cancer but  told me it was curable and that surgery is necessary as I mentioned above.

I guess I want to understand what all this means whether or not, its cancer or simply  a benign tumor.

Thanks
Sheena

I hope and pray you will have benign results from the surgery.  If not, it does sound that your doc feels it is contained.  No accurate diagnosis can be done without the surgery, biopsy, and staging.  I wish you the best.  If you fill in some info on your profile you will be more likely to get more responses to your post.  It helps us be able to answer questions if we know age, some history, and general area where you live.  Some services are available in some areas and not in others.  Marie

i updated my profile with more details. I'd like to understand what my Dr meant by all is contained and that my life is not in danger.

Since i have a tumor in both my ovaries and will undergo surgery to remove them along with a complete hysterectomy, my CA125 count is 104. MRI results show the 2 massed with mural nodule component. Does this mean I have cancer?

When the surgery has been done, the pathology report will tell whether its benign or not.  The doctor can guess but can't know until a biopsy has been done and pathology report provided.

Either way, your doctor is signaling that the problem appears self-contained.  If benign, curable because the cysts/tumors will have been removed.  If cancerous, curable because it's self contained and therefore early stage.

Since you're using a gyn/oncologist, you should be in good hands.  They are specially trained to deal with these surgeries and that's a plus, even if you get a benign report.

Good luck and try not to worry while you're waiting.

Call your doctor and ask what  she meant by the statement that surgery will cure it.

Ovarian cancer cannot be diagnosed properly or staged without surgery.

Some people choose to be fully informed prior to surgery and have an understanding of what is going on and what the outcome could be, others, choose to wait until they have the pathology back to understand what is happening.  Everyone is different.

Something that is very important is the ability to communicate with the doctor, you really should call and ask the doctor exactly what she meant.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes,
Pam
