Ovaries affected by thyroid or seperate?

by dairelle, Jul 13, 2006 12:00AM

Hi Ladies;  Just to update.

I took everyone's advice and squeaked loud enough that I finally have an appointment to see GYN on July 19th.  Yaaaahy.  I have altrasound on the 20th.  While my doc is vacationing I took an old blood work form and went in to have my thyroid checked.  I think it was Theresa210 (thank you) who guessed as I did that it was out.  Sure enough the test came back that my brain is working on overtime to send signals to my thyroid.  They called me in for more blood tests today to check the thyroid itself, and I will have the results in time for GYN appointment.  My questions are that if my thyroid is out either way, would this directly relate to the problms I am having with cysts? Ovaries?  Could this be what they beleive to be endo or ovca?  The replacement doc only asked if Diabetes runs in my family.  None that I am aware of. Also, despite the BC I am still ovulating with pain and now spotting.  Anyone else experience this?

Not to babble, I want to say thanks again for everyone on this forum and the wisdom you have.  It has definately helped me through the wait for results.

Hey girl - we are name sisters!!!!  My first name is Natascha, although everyone calls me Tascha (except my dad and he called Natascha).  Anyway, the thyroid does produce hormones also and that could be causing some of your problems.  I am glad that you are getting it checked and you also have an appt. with a gyn.  When I was getting bloodwork to check hormone levels, they always check the thyroid.  Good work and keep us posted!

Just wanted to chime in and say, I am having thyroid issues also. I have been spotting non stop since March. Not a lot, enough that I need a couple of panty liners a day though. Its mostly brown. I also have several functional cysts and a couple of complex cysts. I started thyroid meds a few weeks ago along with a couple months worth of birth control. I'm hopeful that thyroid meds, and the bc will help regulate me, although I'm still spotting. Time will tell. We would like to get pregnant asap, but I don't think that will happen until this gets figured out.

hello!  same thing here. i had hypothyroidism for many years and half of it was removed after my first pregnancy since it gotten bigger 7 yrs. ago.  i didn't need any supplement for it as the surgery corrected the problem. BUT....

now, i am wondering whether this thyroid has reacted up again and   would it  have something to do with my ovarian cyst? my baby is 9 1/2 months now. don't know whether i'm dealing with perimenopause (as i'm 40), thyroid issues, or post-pregnancy issues when i had the bleeding that resulted me being anemic now.  i'm taking iron supplement so far. at least, one issue with breastfeeding affecting ovulation is gone as i have stopped breastfeeding my baby 3 weeks ago.  and this  last cycle, continuous bleeding has stopped with birth control pills second month (hoping that it will help the cyst go away)  butisn't bpc supposed to help with dysmenorrhea?  when i had my period last week, i was hunched over with pain for 2 days and i ended up taking ibufropen (which from what i read can also affect menstruation, it lightens the flow).  also, i was very much sleep deprived with the baby and all that but lately, he's been better and it seemed like since i started taking birth control pills, i was able to go back to sleep even though it was interrupted a few times.
and next week monday, would be my  2nd ultrasound, will find out what's going on with that cyst on my left ovary.  i also have the other  ovca symptoms (bowels, low back pain, bloating, gas, etc) as described by most of the cysters here. so after monday pelvic test, tuesday is bowel ultrasound test...
this drive me nuts.....the wait and see game......lots of crazy things go through my head....

i also wonder how long is the birth control pills gonna be effective or how much usage before you can feel the effect on it? and if the bleeding stopped with the pills but the cyst stayed on, would it be better to have the cyst removed? or just leave it?  but then if you leave it, i heard some people say that evenutally, the cyst could become cancerous???????????  i don't know.......sometimes i just feel that maybe my questions are stupid, ........but i'm posting them anyways........HELP!!!

Hi there congrats with the baby!  I couldn't imagine trying to breastfeed and go through post pregnancy along with these issues.  As for some of your quesions, I am in the same boat with all the symptoms.  I have only been on BC for 5weeks.  I never did have menstral problems before the cyst came along.  I will have a better idea wed. when I see GYN.  I will be asking the same questions as far as BC go.  In your case, I would assume that feeding your son and now stopping would play a huge roll on your spotting.  I recall having some after each of my pregnancies.  To help with cramping I am taking in extra potacium and although I am long done so far with aving kids, I take the materna vitamins.  I too was anemic with low iron.  I take two per day.  I will pass on anything more about BC Wed.

I wondered when I saw "tascha".  Everyone shortens mine too.  I have since received a call today from doc telling me my thyroid is now fine.  Monday it was bad.  I am taking more control of my health and demanding answers.  This forum is to thank for that.  I have a million questions for the GYN now.  I was complaining to my doc months ago about my tiredness and all the symtoms that have always been explained as IBS.  I am sick of hearing that explaination.  Especially after hearing how many of us on the furum have been just shuffled aside and told that.  As for the thyroid, I am convinced it has everything to do with the cysts.  I will find out more at the GYN.  Hope you are doing well, didn't you just have surgery?

Good for you!  Yes I did just have surgery (again). TVH on 6/27/06.  Feeling pretty good.  You just keep at it and demand answers.  If your dr won't listen, find one who will.

This is totally weird. Two years ago, I was put on Levothyroxim for my thyroid, because I was always cold, and tired.  This year I have a cyst 7 cm.  I don't know if I should just have a full hysterectomy or what?  I reached our deductible on our insurance, so that is playing a huge part in my choice.

Hi Lois,
Please note that you've replied to an original post from 2006.

I'm sure its not related, but I have hypothyroid disease I'm, on Synthroid and also have OVCA.

Did your doctor recommend that you have a full hysterectomy, and for what reason? Does he suspect OVCA?
