Pain medication during ovarian cancer treatment

Pain medication during ovarian cancer treatment

Hi,
Carboplatin and Paclitaxel are the drogs she gets, but for some reason she doesn't get pain killers. And she is in pain...  I guess there are many painkillers in the market, are these reducing somehow the effect of the drugs? Who use what pain killer in this process? Or it is not recommended at all.
Thanks for sharing and helping.
Maria

Please try to use the least amount she can get by on,  sometimes just a tylenol is enough, she may need the stronger ones later and it is better to start off slow.

It is pretty common for Taxol to cause bone pain, as well as neuropathy.  I'm really surprised her doctor hasn't already given her pain medication.  Have either of you talked to her doctor about pain control?  How many treatments has she had?  I'd suggest talking to her doctor about a pain control plan if you haven't already.  I can't imagine any Oncologist refusing to prescribe something for a patient who legitimately needs it.  There are several presciption meds out there, and with her doctor's help, she can find the one that works best for her.  It's also important to begin taking it before the pain sets in.  It takes much longer to work if you are "chasing the pain".

Good luck.

I had terrible bone and lower back pain with carbo/taxol.  My Onc sent me to pain management for control.  i was given 10mg Percocet ti use as needed.  Please let your MOm's Onc know she is suffering as she should not have to. ~~~Joanne

I never took much for pain. Just Tylenol and a couple darvocets for bad headaches. My onc did say that if I needed more for pain to let her know.  They can give her what she needs to ease the pain.  No need to suffer.  Marie

There is absolutely no justificarion for your mom being in pain...she is already going through quite enough!  My oncology team did everything they could possibly do to keep me as comfortable as possible.  I had extreme bone pain, probably from the injections given after chemo to keep my blood counts up, and terrible nausea.  Every one bent over backwards to help me and they did a pretty good job......the main thing is for your mom to let them know how miserable she is!
Please give her my best......she is lucky to have you intervening in her behalf.
Please do keep us posted.
Peace.
