Pet/CT scan again.

Pet/CT scan again.

I have ovarian cancer stage 2b -had surgery one year ago. Stable at present. 10 days ago had pet/ct scan as follow up -was hoping to get results soon (they said 2 weeks). Got a call from hospital Wed to go in to redo scan from liver to stomach again today (Friday). This time they wanted me to take liquid laxative Thurs along with the 8 hr fast. When I asked why it had to be redone -technician said scan wasn't clear and there was a lot of activity. Is this normal? I've had pet scans before and had to redo parts the same day not 10 days later. This is my first pet/ct scan -why couldn't they tell me there was a problem Jan 10th? This time they made me wait to make sure everything was OK before they let me leave. Could they have found something? Why wouldn't it be clear if I fasted? Should i be worried?

For what it's worth, other than a friend with a head injury, I cannot recall anyone else getting their ct results the same day.  The images are made, then sent to a specialist for a determination.  I had a simple gall bladder ultrasound that found nothing abnormal and the results still took three days.

It can take more than eight hours for food to be eaten and completely processed out of the body as waste.  It might very well be that your colon was full of waste when the original scan was done.
