Platelet Count

I have been trying to get my last cycle of taxol/carbo, but unable now for the last two weeks due to low platelet count.  1st week it was 80 and now has dropped to 71.  Needs to be at 100 for treatment.  My clinic says there isn't anything they can do for that count except wait.  Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone been there?.  Thank you.  Kerry

I wish we all knew some magic that could make it go up.  You will get your last chemo it just might take it bit.  After my last chemo my numbers were such a mess I think it was 3 weeks before they stopped testing my blood.  One week my red would be fine and my platelets bad and then the next week my red would be bad and platelets good.

I know there is something they were going to give me if my platlets did not go back up on their own.  One of the ladies here will be able to tell you what.   My oncologist really liked to wait and see what my body did on its own though.  I did end up having to have a booster shot after my 5th chemo because I was sleeping 18 hours a day.  On my last chemo cycle they lowered the dosage.

My wife has done surgery and chemo and also changed her diet completely.
She has not had such low platelets.   Did the diet change help with the
side effects?  Possibly.  

So perhaps look at diet change to fortify yourself.  We like two approaches
since they have had some success of long term remissions.

One method is macrobiotics - we know and talked to two ladies who succeeded:
(1)   She used surgery, chemo & macro diet - was stage II - now cancer free 16 yrs later
(2)   She used macro diet only - was stage IV - now cancer free 22 years later

Another method is gerson therapy
(1)   Gerson booklet on ovarian cancer has 6 published cases of success with surgery and gerson, at stage I, II and III.
(2)   We spoke to a stage IV case with liver mets who used surgery, chemo and then gerson therapy - now out 12 years and cancer free.
(3)   We spoke to a stage IV case who used surgery, chemo and gerson - now out 5 years and cancer free (extra ovarian primary peritoneal cancer)

Searching for success with only mainstream medicine, we found stories of many women still alive, but not cancer free.  So the best results seem to come with
some combination therapy that includes dramatic diet change.

How has your white count been?  I was told any time you have to have shots to boost the white count, it can lower platelet counts.  Do you have much of an appetite?  If you do, try to get as much protein as you can.  I don't know that it would boost the platelets, but it would help with the red and white so maybe you wouldn't have to get injections for those.  I know many doctors don't want to do a platelet transfusion unless your platelets are under 20, but is there a possibility they might consider that for you so you could get your last treatment in?

In chinese saying. The skin of  the peanuts (red thin layer) can boost platelet. It is just from my grandparents experience, but i just add more to my diet, it would hurt anyway.

Hello... Maybe you could ask your Oncol. about a platelet transfusion. I needed that when I was doing Gemzar, as that was really harsh on my bloods. That enabled me to continue with my treatments. I've never missed any treatments, so it was good to have the platelet infusion. Wishing you all the best....hugs...Helen..
