Hmm...would not know for sure about the rupture. You see my pain started at about ovulation time, 2 weeks ago, with a sudden severe sharp pain that only lasted about 10 seconds. Not sure what that was, but this happened 2 or 3 different days. Then I started cramping all over, spotting, and got the u/s that showed the 2 (or 1) cysts. Two days later, I started my scheduled period (on birth control). I thought it was over today, then I had a huge orangish gush and now feel like I'm starting it all over again. I thought this might be a sign of rupture. Maybe it is just a normal "abnormality" caused by cysts.
Either way, I don't think they're going away. Even feels like I'm starting to get a bladder infection. UGGGHHHHH, WHEN WILL IT ALL GO AWAY?????!! :( I don't want to keep running to my doctor for everything that happens. I just want to be normal again. :( (whines)

Yes, I was told to rescan in 6 weeks. What a long 6 weeks this will be!
So would I say that I have cysts that are 3.2 and 2.0 cms? Is the first number of the 3 dimensions what matters, relative to size, or do u add them up?? Does that make sense? Just trying to figure out how my size compares to the other women I have seen on here, that state for example that they have a 7 cm cyst.
And I suppose if I do have one large cyst instead of two, it is over 5.0 cms, with a thick septation. That can't be good. All I've heard about thick septations are bad.
Also, knowing that my left ovary is 3 TIMES as big as the right, sounds bad. Is that because of the cysts, and is normal with cysts?
Sorry for all the questions...I hope someone knows the answers though. Nurse on the phone can only be so helpful, and I hate wondering and waiting.
Thanks,
J.
It appears your right ovary is completely normal in size. The left is "moderately" enlarged(that is how doctors I have spoken with have described that size). It seems they are unsure if you have 2 seperate small cysts or one cyst that has made walls. If it is septated or walled, then that would classify it as a complex cyst. Did the report mention anything other than fluid being in these cysts? If they are two different cysts, they could be simple cysts which would give your doctor no worry at all. The left ovary measurements are the cysts put together. Have you or have they discussed birth control pills with you? It could prove to be functional cysts that go away once your ovulation stops. I could be wrong, but I figure they will watch and see what happens within the next couple of months before they try anything surgically. You will get to join the "wait and see" club. I hope I have helped you some.

No it is not a sure sign of malignancy. Endometriosis can cause septated complex cysts. The fact that there was no mention of anything in the fluid is very good. It is possible that they are just simple cysts that will eventually resolve on their own. Try not to worry too much. I know though that is very difficult.
Thanks RavenLady and xrayu2, that was very helpful.
My report did not mention anything other than what I put above, which seemed kind of vague to me. I am on birth control, which makes it even more odd that I would get these cysts. I wish they knew if the cysts were seperate, or one complex. Complex doesn't sound good. Do complex/septated cysts often resolve on their own?
As I near the end of my menstruation today, I don't feel like these cysts are going away. How will I know, should the pain and symptoms go away too? When should it happen??
And I was wondering, if the cyst does not resolve itself, or especially, if it does grow, is that a SURE sign of malignancy? Anyone know?
Thanks all, for putting up with my many questions. You've been more helpful than my doctor's office. ;-)

Hi there. I know someone will come along with more knowledge than I, but from what I recall, calling them cysts is better than calling them masses. A cyst is usually fluid filled and not as worrisome. It's when they use the words "complex mass" that you worry a little more, but even then, it seems to not be such a big deal, to the doctor's anyway. As for the dimensions, they are small. My left ovary was "enlarged" in my first ultrasound and I had a simple fluid filled cyst as well as a complex mass with septations and debris. The cyst was about the size of a dime and the mass was about the size of a penny. Those have shrunken in size and now my ovary isn't considered enlarged anymore. I don't think it ever was. It was just expanded to contain these growths. Plus, until they get larger, yours too, they don't mess with them anyway.
Anyway, you'll probably get the "let's recheck in 6-8 weeks" speil. Then, if they've stayed the same size or gotten smaller, you don't worry too much about cancer and they recheck again in another 6-8 weeks. That's where I'm at now. Welcome to the waiting room. Love, hugs and God bless, Barb
